Although Zamia is now the only recognised genus of extant Cycadales in South America, it shows some complex ecological adaptations that have resulted in several evolutionarily divergent sections within the genus. The recent publication of Flora de Colombia listed 16 species, of which seven are endemic and five were newly described in the very same treatment. Although this treatment was current at the time of publication, recent collections and additional material of little-known species have made an update and further clarification necessary. A new species, Zamia incognita is described here and its relationships are discussed. Key words: Colombia, cycads, gymnosperms, Zamia Introduction The classification of Zamia Linnaeus (1763: 1659), a genus of about 57 species of mainly South and Central American cycads, is still incomplete with new species still to be discovered and described. The relationships are not very well-studied and there are few classifications at the subgeneric level (Schuster, 1932). Most species have been described individually by various authors and not as part of a larger taxonomic treatment or revision. Because of the inaccessibility of many habitats, there are very few specimens of South American species. -

Some of the species are used in folk medicine, such as a group known as “pedra-hume-caá” or “pedra-ume-caá” or “insulina vegetal” (insulin plant) that it is used for the treatment of diabetes. The species are an important source of essential oils, and most of the chemical studies on Myrcia describe the chemical composition of the essential oils, in which mono- and sesquiterpenes are predominant. The non-volatile compounds isolated from Myrcia are usually flavonoids, tannins, acetophenone derivatives and triterpenes. Anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, antioxidant, antimicrobial activities have been described to Myrcia essential oils, while hypoglycemic, anti-hemorrhagic and antioxidant activities were attributed to the extracts. -

Er wird unter normalen Bedingungen 8–12 Meter hoch. Die Blätter ähneln Lorbeerblättern und sitzen wechselständig an den Zweigen. Die Blüten bestehen aus drei Kelch- und Kronblättern, sind länglich und von grüngelber Farbe. Sie verströmen einen aasartigen Geruch und locken damit Fliegen zur Bestäubung an. Die Frucht des Guanábana ist eigentlich eine große Beere. Sie wird bis zu 40 Zentimeter lang und bis zu 4 Kilogramm schwer. In dem weichen, weißen Fruchtfleisch sitzen große, schwarze (giftige) Samen. Die Fruchthülle ist mit weichen Stacheln besetzt, welche die Überreste des weiblichen Geschlechtsapparates bilden. In this sense, this work had the objective of describing the composition and the structure of the tree community of one hectare of Dense Atlantic Rainforest, at an altitude of 800 m. All individuals, including trees, palm trees, arborescent ferns and dead and standing stems, with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of ≥ 4.8 cm were sampled. After the identification of the botanical material, we proceeded to calculate the usual phytosociological parameters, besides the Shannon diversity index (H’) and Pielou equability index (J). A total of 1.791 individuals were sampled, of which 1.729 were alive, belonging to 185 species, 100 genera and 46 families. -
