It is the first in the ‘Adrian Mole’ series. The diary is written by Adrian Mole, the main character. He usually writes about his hectic daily life; family, friends and just general events. Throughout the book, Adrian is in love with a girl who attends his school, Pandora. He is best friends with a boy called Nigel, although their relationship is on and off through- out the book.. The book starts with Adrian listing his new year’s resolutions, which he tries to complete over the course of the book. There are a lot of interesting characters in the book, including Bert Baxter, an 89 year old alcoholic, with a large Alsatian dog called Sabre, everyone else is afraid of, but Bert loves dearly. Adrian’s mother and father are also very interesting characters. They both also have their ups and downs during the year, but the way it is written, from Adrian’s point of view, makes it very entertaining and funny to read. The book is very witty, and has lots of interesting and amusing jokes and puns in it. It is humorous how a boy of only 13 goes on and on about things that adults worry about. “My spots are so horrific that I can’t bear to write about them.
