What are You fighting for? Racial equality... Jack Roosevelt Robinson was an American professional player who became the first African American to play in in the modern era. Robinson broke the baseball color line when the Brooklyn Dodgers started him at first base on , 1947. When the Dodgers signed Robinson, they heralded the end of in that had relegated black players to the Negro leagues since the 1880s. Robinson's character, his use of , and his unquestionable talent challenged the traditional basis of segregation which then marked many other aspects of American life. He influenced the culture of and contributed significantly to the . Robinson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. Robinson also was the first black television analyst in MLB and the first black vice president of a major American corporation, Chock full o'Nuts Coffee Company. In the 1960s, he helped establish the Freedom National Bank, an African-American-owned financial institution based in Harlem, New York. After his death in 1972, in recognition of his achievements on and off the field, Robinson was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal and Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Attention all 8th graders who plan to apply for PE waiver. The deadline to complete this request is March 1st and the application can be found on the BCSD website. Be sure to complete this ASAP. The 8th annual Dash4Dignity 5K run is OPEN for registrations. We currently have 28 registered participants. You can register online at SpeedySneakers.com or pick-up a paper registration from the Main Office, Guidance Office, or Library. This year we are running for The Cooper Foundation a local organization assisting our Northeast Ohio Special Needs children and young adults.

On February 20 (today) during enrichment mods, all 7th & 8th grade classes are requested to attend one of the 4 short the Travel Club meetings in the auditorium. Two HS teachers will present the upcoming trip options for our current 7th & 8th graders (when they are 9th graders and beyond). The trips are also open to parents of traveling students and staff.
