Carson’s Spring Draft Sale. Friday & Saturday, APRIL 21 & 22, 2017

 Sale starts at 9:00 A.M. with All Tack & Equipment Selling

 1 P.M. Onwards – Horse Sale Preview (Any can be hitched and driven). There will be no set format for this. It will be between the buyers and consignors. However, at 3 P.M. we will do a live video stream of any line horses that need to be previewed.

Welcome to Carson’s Spring & Consignment Sale, we are very pleased to have some exceptional animals on offer from as far away as Scotland, UK and New Brunswick, CA who are both offering some Clydesdale breeding for the future. This is a great opportunity for our true breeding enthusiasts. Also on offer are some great hitch and geldings, some proven and some with all the quality required to hit the show rings. We also want to accommodate the pleasure breeder and driver so we have some good farm teams with experience in the sugar bush and farm equipment that would also be good for hay and sleigh rides. Entries will be taken right up until sale day but they will sell after the catalogued horses.

 Check out the tack and equipment on our webpage. -  No straw for bedding. Shaving will be available to purchase.  Attention bred buyers! All bred mares will have a note from their vet at home but if you are in any doubts we can have a veterinarian here to check her before she leaves.  Attention Consignors – Please supply a new leather or nylon halter and lead rope that will go with each horse. If you fail to provide this the committee has the right to purchase a new halter, the cost of the halter will be deducted from the sale price.  Canadian Association – Board of Directors are holding their Annual Meeting at our facility on Friday, April 21st, 2017 at approx. 3:30PM  Ontario Clydesdale Club will be holding Their Annual Clyde Banquet at the Listowel, Ag. Hall on Friday Night. Everyone Welcome. Please reserve your tickets so they know approximate numbers. Tickets available at our office or at their booth on both sale days. Tickets are only $25.00 per person for a great meal.

1 2016 – Ontario Draft Horse Futurity Promotion Winner

Jeremy Tingey Stoney Lake Myring Breeders: Stoney Lake Belgians of Lakefield, ONT

Causing some excitement was our 2016 2 Year Old futurity competitors returning to compete for a prize pot of $38,630.00 which was divided among the 12 returning competitors. They were put through their paces doing halter class, pattern class and finally a cart class and all their points were totaled from all 3 judges to accumulate the final scores. The successful winner was Jeremy Tingey on a Belgian gelding which he bought for $6200 and returned to win $8425.00 at our Fall Event. He didn’t put this animal through the sale as I believe it was already sold to Triple Star Belgians of Michigan. The other successful competitor was Louis Gregg who has competed successfully every year in this event and as he says, “The return is better than money in the bank”. He bought his colt for $3700.00 and was 3rd in the event winning $5495.00 and then went ahead and sold the gelding for an additional $5000.00 to Shannon and Karen Cobbs making his total income less his purchase price of $6795.00 over a 2 year period. This is why this event is growing each year.

1st Jeremy Tingey Stoney Lake Myring $8425.00 2nd Gillian Tinney DB’s Newt $6865.00 3rd Louis Gregg Gregglea Magestic Victory $5495.00 4th Leah Everson LeaBra’s Archi Taylor $3775.00 5th Daniel Fillimore Leaskdale Kooter $2750.00

2 6th Peter Curtis Curtis Hanna $1890.00 7th Rusty McArthur Royal CL Chips $1700.00 8th Liz Ritchie Sandy Acres Luck of Irish Fin $1300.00 9th Roger Rice Southridge Navan Ulrie $1150.00 10th John Heatlie Ogdensburg Master Classic $985.69 11th James McWilliams Southridge Navan Dorcas $200.00 12th James Thomas JNL’s Candy $200.00

Again this year we had an exceptional turnout of 2016 weanlings to be sold and consigned to the 2018 Futurity. 31 colts sold with their average being $3489.39 per head which is once again an increase of $250.00 from last year. This average has steadily gone up each year, as follows:

2013 – 42 colts averaged $2072.62 per head 2014 - 22 colts averaged $2836.36 per head 2015 - 25 colts averaged $3250.00 per head 2016 - 31 colts averaged $3498.39 per head

Which has to be helping the breeder, which in turn helps out the industry. We were very pleased to see that we had consignors from New Brunswick, Manitoba and Quebec who also see the benefits of this program. I want to stress and make sure that people know that our consignors are supporting this program as much as the advertisers are, as 45% of the selling price is what makes up the prize pot. At a recent board meeting the directors made a change to this so if you are selling your colt this year only 35% is going to the futurity pot, 55% to the seller and 10% advertising and commission costs.

Once again we can’t thank our futurity sponsors enough or our weanling consignors. Please take the time to thank them personally they are supporting our industry and helping our breeding program.

3 These are the only horses eligible for the 2017 If any of these horses have been sold, can you please notify Carson’s office, so that the futurity information can be sent to the new owners?
