What we have here is a rainbow of hues and perfumes, of sounds and voices, which form a musical variety with which everybody can identify. He and she can change the partition to suit their mood or desire at any given moment. Even better than a potpourri concert made of great classical selections, where you politely have to wait till the end of the performance, whether you like a piece or not, this rich anthology offers you the possibility of jumping from one poem to another and to close the book once your thirst has been quenched, even if it means that you will feel the urge to go back to it ten minutes later.

KAVYA BHARATI TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL - I THE STUDY CENTRE FOR INDIAN LITERATURE IN ENGLISH AND TRANSLATION AMERICAN COLLEGE MADURAI Number 20 2008 Foreword 20:20 Twenty years ago the inaugural issue of Kavya Bharati had Meena Alexander as our mascot. “The Storm: a poem in five parts” was the lead poem in KB 1/1988. Meena Alexander is again with us to celebrate our 20th anniversary with yet another poem – “Landscape with Kurinji.” We deem ourselves lucky. The response to our request to celebrate sixty years of Indian poetry since Independence has been quite overwhelming. Because of certain limitations set on us by our printers, we are compelled to have our 20th anniversary special issue in two separate volumes. What you have before you is just the first part. Part II of the Twentieth anniversary special will have all the material that we could not accommodate in a single volume. So 20:20 it will be. Please have patience and wait for the second part. While we were busy putting together our 20th anniversary special, we received the shocking news of the death of Dr. Niranjan Mohanty, a regular contributor to Kavya Bharati. He passed away on 28th July 2008. We have in this volume his essay, “Indian Poetry in English: The context of canon, challenges and future directions.” Elsewhere on the pages of KB 20 you will find tributes to Niranjan Mohanty by Gopi Kottoor and Jaydeep Sarangi. Kavya Bharati joins them in mourning the loss of Niranjan Mohanty. We place on record our thanks to Ellis Ballard and T.

• Dylan Thomas - Poems
Classic Poetry Series Dylan Thomas - poems - Publication Date: 2012 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Dylan Thomas(27 October 1914 – 9 November 1953) Dylan Marlais Thomas was a Welsh poet and writer who wrote exclusively in English. In addition to poetry, he wrote short stories and scripts for film and radio, which he often performed himself. His public readings, particularly in America, won him great acclaim; his sonorous voice with a subtle Welsh lilt became almost as famous as his works. His best-known works include the "play for voices" Under Milk Wood and the celebrated villanelle for his dying father, "Do not go gentle into that good night". Appreciative critics have also noted the craftsmanship and compression of poems such as "In my Craft or Sullen Art", and the rhapsodic lyricism in "And death shall have no dominion" and "Fern Hill". Early Life Dylan Thomas was born in the Uplands area of Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales, on 27 October 1914 just a few months after the Thomas family had bought the house. Uplands was, and still is, one of the more affluent areas of the city. His father, David John ('DJ') Thomas (1876–1952), had attained a first-class honours degree in English at University College, Aberystwyth, and was dissatisfied with his position at the local grammar school as an English master who taught English literature. His mother, Florence Hannah Thomas (née Williams) (1882–1958), was a seamstress born in Swansea. Nancy, Thomas's sister, (Nancy Marles 1906–1953) was nine years older than he. Their father brought up both children to speak only English, even though he and his wife were both bilingual in English and Welsh.

• The Poetry with Prakriti Festival (2014)
The Poetry with Prakriti Festival (2014) About Poetry Festival 2014 ‘Poetry with Prakriti’ is an annual festival featuring 25 eminent and emerging poets, each presenting four different readings of their poems to small, intimate audiences at several venues across the city – schools, colleges, cafes, IT parks, green public parks, shops, galleries, boutiques, banks and other commercial establishments. The festival is scheduled everywhere, to coincide with the famed ‘Chennai Season’. The aim of the Poetry with Prakriti festival is to get poets from varied backgrounds to read and share their poetry in various languages at different locations across the city. This allows multiple groups of people to enjoy creative expression rendered through poetry. Over the years, we have presented 200 poets from across India, and from countries such as Spain, France, Canada, U.K, Denmark, Switzerland and the U.S.A.
