Allison Jones Rushing was nominated to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on August 27, 2018.

 Rushing was a legal intern for the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) and has remained closely involved with the group since then.1 ADF is a hate group, as designated by the Southern Poverty Law Center, due to its support for the criminalization of LGBTQ people and sterilization of trans people, and the group’s assertion that separation of church and state a “myth.”2

 Rushing filed an amicus brief in Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbia v. Comer arguing in favor of a Missouri church that wanted to receive a grant from the Missouri government despite a Missouri law that prohibited government aid of churches.3

 Rushing was an avid supporter of anti-choice Associate Justice ’s nomination to the Supreme Court, having signed three letters to the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of his confirmation.4

 Rushing gave a speech disparaging the Supreme Court’s decision in U.S. v. Windsor, the landmark decision striking down the federal government’s definition of marriage as between one man and one woman, as defined by the Defense of Marriage Act.5 Rushing expressed concern that the Windsor precedent would lead to the legalization of equal marriage in all fifty states, and asserted that under Windsor, “morality is no longer relevant.”6

 Rushing is a member of the .7 The Federalist Society is led by Leonard Leo, the anti-choice activist who is heavily involved in selecting Trump’s Supreme Court and lower court nominees. Leo has been outspoken in his anti-choice views, calling abortion “an act of force” and “a threat to human life,”8 and serves as co-chairman of Students for Life,9 a group whose mission is to “abolish abortion.”10

 Rushing clerked for anti-choice Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.11
