Jr Yr Championship Program 2021 CDS JUNIOR YOUNG RIDER CHAMPIONSHIPS CALIFORNIA . DRESSAGE . SOCIETY Southern • July 17-18, 2021 Welcome! Welcome Riders, Coaches, Sponsors, and Volunteers to the 2021 Annual CDS Junior/Young Rider Championships! We are so excited to showcase the hard work and determination of the Junior/Young Rider at our Junior Championship show. We will start Friday evening with the team theory exam for all TEAM riders. On Saturday our Championship classes begin and we will hold an ice cream social that evening for the junior riders to meet and celebrate their accomplishments. Sunday will be filled with final championship rides and award ceremonies. We are grateful to the continued and tireless support by Temecula Chapter management and staff, our CDS Office Staff, our sponsors and vendors, our show volunteers, our supportive junior and young rider trainers, our perpetual trophy sponsors, and our patient competitor families for which without, the show could not exist. Held annually in the northern and southern regions of the California Dressage Society, the championships specifically held in honor of our youngest members was the brain-child of CDS olunteerV of the Year Trip Harting and Mary Schrader. The CDS Junior/Young Rider Championship is the largest and longest run show of its type in the nation. Our CDS Junior/Young Rider programs have a long history of supporting our youth in equestrian sport. Through the Club 100 scholarship program, funds are available for every CDS junior/young rider member. Annually, there are CDS scholarships available for CDS members under 21 years, and we host two regional clinics allowing each CDS chapter to send a junior/young rider representative to an instructional clinic. Scholarship information may be found on the CDS website: California-dressage.org We are constantly looking to meet the needs of our junior/young rider members including reviewing the traditional elements of a championship show environment. We offer Team competitions to bring a sports team environment to our individual sport! We offer a jog-skills test and freestyle combined with the Championship tests to create an overall level champion. We hope that our junior/young rider competitors will take advantage of these added show components to “test the waters” before moving up to the Region 7 Jr/Yr Team national competition experience. Please keep up to date on the daily show and show announcements printed and posted outside the show office each day. Please respect the show staff if you are directed to comply with a Covid-19 operational requirement. Thank you Show Sponsors and Vendors! Thank you Show Volunteers! Thank you Trainers and Competitor Families! And Good Luck to our Show Competitors! • Elsie Venner by Oliver Wendell Holmes
Elsie Venner by Oliver Wendell Holmes CHAPTER I. THE BRAHMIN CASTE OF NEW ENGLAND. There is nothing in New England corresponding at all to the feudal aristocracies of the Old World. Whether it be owing to the stock from which we were derived, or to the practical working of our institutions, or to the abrogation of the technical "law of honor," which draws a sharp line between the personally responsible class of "gentlemen" and the unnamed multitude of those who are not expected to risk their lives for an abstraction,—whatever be the cause, we have no such aristocracy here as that which grew up out of the military systems of the Middle Ages. What we mean by "aristocracy" is merely the richer part of the community, that live in the tallest houses, drive real carriages, (not "kerridges,") kidglove their hands, and French-bonnet their ladies' heads, give parties where the persons who call them by the above title are not invited, and have a provokingly easy way of dressing, walking, talking, and nodding to people, as if they felt entirely at home, and would not be embarrassed in the least, if they met the Governor, or even the President of the United States, face to face. Some of these great folks are really well-bred, some of them are only purse-proud and assuming,—but they form a class, and are named as above in the common speech. It is in the nature of large fortunes to diminish rapidly, when subdivided and distributed. A million is the unit of wealth, now and here in America.

He has the long, lean elegance of a classic Thoroughbred, reminiscent of his sire Colonel John and second damsire, Canadian Champion With Approval, yet Airoforce received precocious speed from his damsire Cuvee. Airoforce was victorious at distances ranging between 6 1/2-furlongs and 1 1/16-miles. Although he competed mainly on turf, Airoforce won a key stake over dirt. His immediate pedigree has dirt and turf attributes. A magnificent looking $350,00 OBS April sales purchase campaigned by John Oxley, Airoforce flashed precociousness and speed in his debut, drawing away to win a six-furlong turf sprint by 3 1/4-lengths in a sharp 1:10.34, just a second off the Kentucky Downs track record. Airoforce dominated the Dixiana Bourbon Stakes (G3) by 2 1/2-lengths over a full field of fourteen over the Keeneland turf, including Camelot Kitten, Surgical Strike. • Progenitor of the Bulrush Line
u HISTORY LESSON u OLD MORRILL Having profiled Justin Morgan (TMH, January 2015), then accounted for the sons (both famous and lesser known),Progenitor our resident historian now accounts of for other the descendants asBulrush she chronicles the early historyLine of the breed. By Brenda L. Tippin s families descending from the old Justin Morgan horse began to grow and spread across the country, certain ones, such as the Morrill branch, developed their own distinctive character. Some suggested the Morrills were different and should not be called Morgans, although Morrill was a great-grandson in direct sireline of the original Morgan horse. He had more size, and perhaps less of what came to be called “type.” However, he possessed many other coveted Morgan traits in a large degree, and he gave back Ato the breed valuable Morgan genes passed down through his line which might otherwise have been lost. When Battell established the Morgan Horse Register in 1894, the rules for admission were simple: 1. Any meritorious stallion or mare that traces in direct male line to the original Justin Morgan Horse, and has at least one sixty-fourth of his blood. 2. The produce of a sire and dam both registered in The American Morgan Horse Register. Morrill was a great-grandson, tracing his sireline directly to Justin Morgan in four generations. His unique story is one with which readers perhaps may be least familiar, yet his positive influence on the breed has been tremendous. THE FAMILY OF FRENCH MORRILL, surname, the French family being an old and respected one, also OWNER OF THE OLD MORRILL HORSE among the original settlers of Massachusetts.

The Main Chapel of the Durres Amphitheater: Decoration and Chronology Abstract The amphitheater at Durres in central Albania is one of the larger and better preserved amphitheaters of the Roman world, as well as one of the eastern-most examples of the amphitheater form. Nonetheless, it is not for its Roman architecture that the building is best known, but its later Christian decoration, specifically, a series of mosaics which adorn the walls of a small chapel inserted into the amphitheater's Roman fabric. First published by Vangel Toçi in 1971, these mosaics were introduced to a wider scholarly audience through their inclusion in Robin Cormack's groundbreaking 1985 volume Writing in Gold.
