The general Centre policy is to encourage members to use one of the above three methods to obtain result tickets. Writing tickets at events delays getting through the very tight program.

The Centre Executive recognises that team managers still prefer to write out tickets at field events for the younger age groups. Track event results however still need to be obtained through ResultsHQ.

Page | 3 WHITTLESEA CITY LAC Number 3-15/16 WEEK 3 – 24 October 2015 PROGRAM FOR WEEK 3

We have often modified the program to a shortened 3 event day for Opening Ceremony. This year we are trying a full 4 event program and we’ll see how it goes. Two elite athletes are making an appearance so a slightly longer competition day will help to ensure all kids get a chance to meet Eleanor & Brooke and get their autograph.

Clubs & Centre - please warn families we do expect the day to be slightly longer than usual. Its shouldn't blow out to a ridiculous time but it will be a little longer.

So the important info for running comp this week is:

1. The program is a modified Program D to cater for the required 100m races to assess WC Plate contenders.

2. We will break at 10am for the opening ceremony. This will begin with the club march and follow into speeches and the introduction of the elite athletes.

3. The Whittlesea City Plate will run at the completion of the ceremony. The fastest times from the Under 7 to Under 16 age groups will compete in a handicap race of 100m. One race for Boys and one race for Girls. Note this race is not a 1/2/3 podium finish race. There is a silver plate up for grabs and its winner takes all.

1. On Track will run with both groups before the break. On Track Leaders you are on a strict 40 minute time frame with each group.

2. There are 3 long jumps after the break and one of those will be run at a triple jump pit. So MPSM and MGL, you will have 3 events each at your triple jump pits but one of you will get a plus two TJ's.

Page | 4 WHITTLESEA CITY LAC Number 3-15/16 WEEK 3 – 24 October 2015 Elenor Patterson – High jump

Eleanor Patterson (born 22 May 1996) is an Australian athlete who competes in the high jump. She has a personal best of 1.96 m (6 ft 5 in) for the event. She is the joint holder of the world youth best and the outright holder of the Oceanian junior record. She was the gold medallist at the 2014 and the 2013 World Youth Championships in Athletics.

CAREER

Born in Leongatha, Victoria,[1] Patterson began competing in the high jump as a child. She competed in local events from the age of six and continued on with the Little Athletics programme.[2] She was runner-up at the national junior (under-20) championships in

1 2011, setting a personal best of 1.82 m (5 ft 11 ⁄2 in) at the age of fourteen. She returned the following year to win that title and

1 [3] improved to 1.87 m (6 ft 1 ⁄2 in) that November.

In her first international competition she won the gold medal at the 2013 World Youth Championships in Athletics, setting a personal best of 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) to win by a margin of six centimetres.[4] In December she broke records at the Australian Schools Championships, clearing a height of 1.96 m (6 ft 5 in) to equal the world youth best held by Charmaine Gale-Weavers (set in 1981) and Olga Turchak (set in 1984) and set a newOceanian junior record. The 17-year-old had three attempts at

3 [5] the Australian senior record of 1.98 m (6 ft 5 ⁄4 in), but had three failures.

Patterson was regularly over 1.90 m in the 2014 season, winning a fourth straight Australian junior title and taking her first senior national title at the Australian Athletics Championships. She also won at

1 [3] the meet with a jump of 1.92 m (6 ft 3 ⁄2 in). She decided to miss the 2014 World Junior Championships in Athletics in order to represent at the 2014 Commonwealth

1 Games instead. The move paid off as she jumped 1.94 m (6 ft 4 ⁄4 in) to win the gold medal ahead of England's Isobel Pooley. This made the 18-year-old the third youngest Australian Commonwealth Games champion ever.

Athletics Australia and Jetstar Little Athletics Australia has today launched their new joint Australian Athletics Officials Education Scheme (AAEOS). Endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission, the AAEOS delivers an innovative and transparent education pathway for all officials, with online learning coupled with face-to-face education. The scheme’s exemplary education framework will ensure Australian Athletics Officials remain world leaders in event delivery at all levels of athletic competition. The AAOES emphasises the importance of knowledge and competency. It will be widely accessible and will encourage even more people to get involved with athletics through officiating. The levels of this scheme delivered within Australia are: - Club/Centre/School Official; AAOES Level 1 - State Level Official; AAOES Level 2 - National Level Official; AAOES Level 3 The AAEOS is complemented by two additional invitation-only courses delivered at Oceania Athletics Association or International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) level. These courses are designed to provide Australian Athletics Officials with the opportunity to become qualified international level officials.

“With an at home Commonwealth Games in 2018 fast approaching, it is vital that athletics in Australia boast a broad network of educated and capable officials. The online learning system that we have created in collaboration with Jetstar Little Athletics Australia will bring more people into the sport through officiating and provide a pathway for international officiating for experienced Australian officials,” Phil Jones, Athletics Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for parents of little athletes to become more involved with our great sport. Officials are crucial to the delivery of athletics to more than 100,000 children every weekend and it’s great that we have been able to create a seamless pathway for those looking to pursue opportunities across all ages of the sport,” Martin Stillman, Jetstar Little Athletics Australia Chief Executive Officer, said.

This is an exciting time for officiating in Australia, and Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia encourage your feedback to continue to improve the program.

Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia would like to thank the Officials Committee of Lorraine Morgan, Donna Smith, Peter Barnes, Eddie Fabian, John Morris and Richard Lawsyz for their dedicated contribution to making the AAEOS a reality.
