EXTENDING ALOHA AND BEST WISHES TO THE REVEREND JUSTO ANDRES AND FAMILY

the WHEREAS the Reverend Justo Andres Associate Rector of

a call to be Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Wailuku has accepted

Vicar to the Filipino Mission in the Diocese of San Joaquin California

effective July 1 1983 and

WHEREAS Father Andres will be headquartered in Stockton

California and will be responsible to the Right Reverend Victor Rivera

Bishop of the Diocese of San Joaquin and

WHEREAS born in Bacarra Ilocos Norte Republic of the

Philipines Father Andres is no stranger to building a congregation

his success at where none previously existed as evidenced by

the Good increasing the number of Filipino families associated with

1965 to 150 Shepherd Church in Wailuku Maui from 4 families in

families at the present time and

WHEREAS educated at St Andrews Seminary and the Far Eastern

of University in Father Andres was ordained to the priesthood

the Most the Philippine Independent Church on April 17 1955 by

and Reverend Isabello de los Reyes Supreme Bishop of the Philippines

the Church in 1969 and was received into the priesthood of Episcopal

WHEREAS Father Andres speaks three major Filipino dialects

in church Ilocano Tagalog and Visayan and uses all three languages

work and

WHEREAS prior to his assignment to the Good Shepherd Church

in 1965 Father Andres served as Army Chaplain to the 1st Infantry

Division at Fort Magsaysay Philippines and

WHEREAS in addition to his work at the Good Shepherd Church

Father Andres has been active in civic and social groups as a member

of the County Redevelopment Agency the State Subarea Health

Planning Commission and the Maui Filipino Community Council president

of the United Bacarreneos of Maui counselor at Hale Makua court

interpreter and police chaplain and

WHEREAS in 1969 Father Andres married Raquel Nancy Juan

Ruiz and together have developed a team approach to ministry that is

often cited as an example in the church and

WHEREAS Nancy Andres also has an outstanding record of

community service that includes being elected the first woman president

of the Maui Filipino Community Council appointed by Governor George

Ariyoshi as Maui Chairperson for the Maui celebration of the 75th

Filipino Anniversary Commemoration and appointed delegate from Hawaii

to several national church meetings concerning minority groups and

WHEREAS from 1977 to 1981 Nancy Andres was also Coordinator

of the Immigrant Services Division in the Department of Human

Concerns for the County of Maui and

WHEREAS the congregation of the Good Shepherd Episcopal

Church and the people of our community will certainly miss the

presence of such a beloved couple and their son Ferdinand now

therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County of Maui that it

hereby extends its best wishes and warm aloha to the Reverend Justo

Andres and family and
