Branson Ashworth, Archie Colgan and Cole Mendenhall will each be making their first NCAA postseason appearance, as it will be the second trip each for Bryce Meredith and Drew Templeman. It will mark the 24th time that Wyoming will send at least five wrestlers to TV Broadcast Information the national tournament. Brian Hamman (North Carolina State) Saturday, March 18 Session V – 9 a.m. MT – ESPNU/ESPN3 Last Year at the NCAA Championships Session VI – 6 p.m. MT – ESPN/ESPN3 Bryce Meredith’s title run fell just short in the NCAA Championship finals last season. Meredith fell to Oklahoma State’s Dean Heil in Madison Square Garden in New York City. He was the first Cowboy to wrestle in the finals since Reese Andy in 1996. The Cowboys finished 18th in the team standings with 24.5 points. It was the 18th time in school history the Cowboys have finished in the Top-25 at the NCAA Championships and the Pokes’ highest finish as well as the third top-25 finish under head coach Mark Branch. It was also the best team finish for UW since finishing 15th in 1996. Big 12 Championships Wrap Up 2016-17 Big 12 Led by Bryce Meredith’s runner-up finish at 141-pounds, the University of Wyoming wrestling team took fifth place at the 2017 Big 12 Championship. Cole Mendenhall and Drew Templeman School Conference Overall each claimed a third place finish at their respective weights, while Branson Ashworth and Archie Air Force 1-4 6-6 Colgan took fifth at 165 and 157, respectively. Meredith is the highest ranked Poke coming in at eighth at 141 *Rankings based off USA Today/NWCA pounds. Templeman is 12th at 125 pounds, while redshirt sophomore Branson Ashworth sits Division I Coaches Poll. 14th at 165 pounds. Archie Colgan (157) is 15th while Cole Mendenhall (149) is 18th in their respective weights. Four Cowboys were ranked in the release of the final RPI rankings on Thursday. The junior will face Mike Longo (19-8) from Oklahoma in the opening round. Longo secured a third-place finish in Tulsa last weekend.
