Thuram, Lilian - sport. 1 PRÉSENTATION Thuram, Lilian (1972- ), joueur de football français, double vainqueur de la Coupe du monde en 1998 et du Championnat d’Europe des nations en 2000, l’un des meilleurs défenseurs latéraux d’Europe de la fin des années 1990 et du début des années 2000. 2 LA CARRIÈRE EN CLUB 2.1 La montée en puissance à l’AS Monaco Né à Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe), Lilian Thuram débute sa carrière professionnelle à l’AS Monaco en 1990, et dispute son premier match de Première Division (D1) du Championnat de France l’année suivante. Aux côtés d’Emmanuel Petit notamment, puis de Thierry Henry, Fabien Barthez et David Trezeguet, il s’impose rapidement comme l’un des meilleurs défenseurs français. Ses qualités de rigueur et de précision dans le geste défensif souvent décisif, associées à une condition et une puissance physiques impressionnantes, lui valent de nombreuses sollicitations. 2.2 L’avènement en Italie Après cinq saisons à l’AS Monaco, Lilian Thuram opte pour un club étranger et signe en 1996 un contrat en faveur de la formation italienne du Parme AC ; il entend ainsi donner un nouvel élan et une dimension internationale à sa carrière. Aux côtés d’Alain Boghossian notamment, autre « pilier » français de la formation parmesane, il remporte l’édition 1999 de la Coupe de l’UEFA (voir coupes d’Europe) aux dépens de l’Olympique de Marseille. La même année, il décroche la Coupe d’Italie. En 2001, il est transféré à la Juventus de Turin, où il rejoint David Trezeguet. Au sein de l’une des meilleures équipes d’Europe, il consolide son palmarès : champion d’Italie (en 2002 et 2003), vainqueur de la Super Coupe d’Italie (2002) et finaliste de la prestigieuse Ligue des champions (2003). 3 LILIAN THURAM ET L’ÉQUIPE DE FRANCE Sélectionné à 103 reprises de 1994 à 2004, Lilian Thuram a inscrit 2 buts sous le maillot tricolore. 3.1 La consécration internationale Lilian Thuram est appelé pour la première fois en équipe de France en août 1994 à l’occasion d’un match contre la République tchèque. En 1996, sélectionné par Aimé Jacquet, il dispute le Championnat d’Europe des nations (Euro) qui se déroule en Angleterre ; la France est éliminée en demi-finale. La Coupe du monde 1998, remportée par la France, constitue un tournant dans la carrière internationale de Lilian Thuram ; elle est en effet marquée par un match « historique » contre la Croatie au cours duquel, à la surprise générale et dans un rôle inédit combinant jeu défensif et débordements sur les ailes, il marque les deux buts de la victoire qui permet à la sélection française d’atteindre la finale. En 2000, il est retenu par Roger Lemerre pour l’Euro 2000, également dominé par la France. 3.2 Les dernières compétitions Puis, malgré quelques baisses de régime au cours de la saison 2001-2002, Lilian Thuram participe à la Coupe du monde 2002 en Corée du Sud et au Japon, mais les Bleus sont éliminés dès le premier tour. De même, lors de l’Euro 2004 au Portugal, l’équipe de France quitte prématurément la compétition (au stade des quarts de finale), et quelques semaines après cet échec, en juillet 2004, Lilian Thuram annonce officiellement sa retraite internationale. FOOTBALL, IMMIGRATIONS ET OUTRE-MER EN ÉQUIPE DE FRANCE (1918-2018) L’histoire du football en équipe de France ne peut se concevoir sans l’apport multiple des outre-mer (Antilles, Guyane, Océanie et océan Indien) et d’une immigration venue des quatre coins d’Europe, du Maghreb, d’Afrique noire et de l’Amérique du Sud. Chaque grande vague d’immigration et de présence se retrouve au niveau de l’équipe nationale, et l’intégration des représentants les plus brillants des communautés étrangères illustre la notion de « creuset français ». Près de 350 joueurs de l’équipe nationale, soit plus d’un tiers, ont un parent ou un grand-parent d’origine étrangère ou ultramarine, ou ont eux-mêmes été naturalisés après avoir migré en France. Ces internationaux ont arboré le maillot des Bleus de la première Coupe du monde en 1930 en Uruguay à celle de 2018 en Russie. Également présents en championnat de France, des joueurs belges et luxembourgeois s’illustrent dès la première Coupe de France en 1917-1918 et inaugurent un long récit d’un siècle dans les compétitions sportives en France. Le Onze de France est désormais l’histoire de joueurs et joueuses de toutes origines et aux destins emblématiques : les Algériens Zinédine Zidane et Rachid Mekhloufi, le Sénégalo-Guyanais Raoul Diagne, le Néo-Calédonien Christian Karembeu, le Polonais Raymond Kopaszewski, l’Autrichien Rodolphe Hiden ainsi que la Martiniquaise Wendie Renard et l’Ivoirienne Marie-Laure Delie. FOOTBALL, IMMIGRATIONS ET OUTRE-MER EN ÉQUIPE DE FRANCE (1918-2018) brochure-expo-bleu-e-s-2.indd 1 25/05/2018 17:44 1918 5 2018 FOOTBALL, IMMIGRATIONS ET OUTRE-MER EN ÉQUIPE DE FRANCE L’histoire du football en équipe de France ne peut se concevoir sans l’apport multiple des outre-mer (Antilles, Guyane, Océanie et océan Indien) et d’une immigration venue des quatre coins d’Europe, du Maghreb, d’Afrique noire et de l’Amérique du Sud. Chaque grande vague d’immigration et de présence se retrouve au niveau de l’équipe nationale, et l’intégration des représentants les plus brillants des communautés étrangères illustre la notion de « creuset français ». Près de 350 joueurs de l’équipe nationale, soit plus d’un tiers, ont un parent ou un grand-parent d’origine étrangère ou ultramarine, ou ont eux-mêmes été naturalisés après avoir migré en France. Ces internationaux ont arboré le maillot des Bleus de la première Coupe du monde en 1930 en Uruguay à celle de 2018 en Russie. Également présents en championnat de France, des joueurs belges et luxembourgeois s’illustrent dès la première Coupe de France en 1917-1918 et inaugurent un long récit d’un siècle dans les compétitions sportives en France. Le Onze de France est désormais l’histoire de joueurs et joueuses de toutes origines et aux destins emblématiques : les Algériens Zinédine Zidane et Rachid Mekhloufi, le Sénégalo-Guyanais Raoul Diagne, le Néo-Calédonien Christian Karembeu, le Polonais Raymond Kopaszewski, l’Autrichien Rodolphe Hiden ainsi que la Martiniquaise Wendie Renard et l’Ivoirienne Marie- Laure Delie.
