  • Welcome to OSU! Self-Guided Tour of Campus
Welcome to OSU! Self-Guided Tour of Campus Oregon State University’s main campus is over 400 acres and has 121 buildings-needless to say you will only have a chance to see a small part of it! Tuition was $10 a term in 1870 when the first degrees were awarded to a class of three (one woman and two men). There are currently over 27,000 students from all 50 states and 93 foreign countries. The Tour: (Sites can be visited in any order) Memorial Union & Quad In the Quad: The MU opened in 1928 and remains a popular place with students today. The quad (lawn) out front often has information booths, live music concerts, and students hanging out doing homework or basking in the Oregon sun. In the lounge: This beautiful area, also known as the students’ living room, features couches and chairs for between-class studying or naps. At noon on Fridays, the lounge hosts concerts for students and the public by OSU music groups including parts of the orchestra and a capella groups. All of the flags throughout the hall represent a student or faculty member from that particular country. On main level: If you are looking for a bite to eat, there are a couple of great places to get a bite on the West end of the MU. OSU students can either use cash or a debit card to purchase meals. On campus, there are 17 different restaurants, cafés, and stores to choose from. In the basement: During any free time that students have here at OSU, they can be found down in the basement playing pool on one of the many pool tables, bowling at OSU’s recreational bowling alley, and playing video games with friends.

  • Revitalization of the AM Radio Service ) ) ) )
Before the FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION Washington, DC In the matter of: ) ) Revitalization of the AM Radio Service ) MB Docket 13-249 ) ) COMMENTS OF REC NETWORKS One of the primary goals of REC Networks (“REC”)1 is to assure a citizen’s access to the airwaves. Over the years, we have supported various aspects of non-commercial micro- broadcast efforts including Low Power FM (LPFM), proposals for a Low Power AM radio service as well as other creative concepts to use spectrum for one way communications. REC feels that as many organizations as possible should be able to enjoy spreading their message to their local community. It is our desire to see a diverse selection of voices on the dial spanning race, culture, language, sexual orientation and gender identity. This includes a mix of faith-based and secular voices. While REC lacks the technical knowledge to form an opinion on various aspects of AM broadcast engineering such as the “ratchet rule”, daytime and nighttime coverage standards and antenna efficiency, we will comment on various issues which are in the realm of citizen’s access to the airwaves and in the interests of listeners to AM broadcast band stations. REC supports a limited offering of translators to certain AM stations REC feels that there is a segment of “stand-alone” AM broadcast owners. These owners normally fall under the category of minority, women or GLBT/T2. These owners are likely to own a single AM station or a small group of AM stations and are most likely to only own stations with inferior nighttime service, such as Class-D stations.

  • Get to Know OSU Self-Guided Tour of Campus
Get to Know OSU Self-Guided Tour of Campus Oregon State University’s main campus is over 400 acres and has 121 buildings – needless to say you will only have a chance to see a small part of it! Tuition was $10 a term in 1870 when the first degrees were awarded to a class of three (one woman and two men). There are currently over 19,000 students from all 50 states and 90 foreign countries. 1. Memorial Union & Quad In the quad or on the front steps. In 1920 the students proposed plans for a Memorial Union to honor heroes from WWI. The site was excavated by steam shovel but rocks and dirt were removed by horses with carts. The MU opened in 1928 and remains a popular place with students today. The quad (lawn) out front often has information booths, live music, and students just hanging out. Go up the steps from the main entrance, then up the stairs into the lounge. There are two murals in the Rotunda as you go up the stairs: one reflects the sea grant studies at OSU and the other is a WWI battlefield in France representing why the MU was built. The MU Main Lounge (called the students’ living room) features couches and chairs for between-class studying or naps. All of the flags overhead symbolize a student or faculty member from that particular country. On the main level: Stop into the Bookstore (down the hall to your left) for some orange-and-black Beaver apparel or have a lunch break at the Commons (down the hall to the right) and mingle with OSU students and staff who eat and study here during the day.

  • Oregon State Beavers
EXTRA POINTS: Oregon State Beavers (4-1, 1-1 in Pac-12) @ Tulane Green Wave (1-4, 0-3 in AAC) ‘At the 50… Oregon State got drubbed in its last two visits to Louisiana, so why go back? Two things come to mind. First BAKER off, they’re not playing LSU this time. The Tigers swamped the Beavers 38-3 in 2008 and 44-14 in 2012. COOKED Plus, OSU’s first-ever trip to the Bayou produced one of the school’s greatest highlights, when Heisman UP QUITE winner Terry Baker led the No. 18 Beavers to a 13-7 upset of No. 1 Kentucky in the 1950 Sugar Bowl. OSU A TREAT was hand-picked for the game after the Kentucky coach vetoed the Sugar Bowl’s first choice, No. 2 University of San Francisco, because the Dons had African-American players. The Kentucky coach: Bear Bryant. The 45… Oregon State and Tulane have met just once, with the Beavers winning 13-7 at home in 1979. It seems the BEAVERS odd matchup was born of similar circumstances as this year’s game: A borderline bowl team attempting to CAN SNIFF pad its win total at the expense of a patsy. Except in ‘79, OSU, which went 1-10 in 1978, was the cupcake A CUPCAKE and Tulane, which barely missed out on a bowl the previous season because of overscheduling (losses to FROM AFAR ACC powers Georgia Tech, Maryland), was in search of an easy score. It’s interesting to note that Tulane, despite the shocking loss in Corvallis, went on to make the Liberty Bowl, where it lost 9-6 to Penn State.
