The eating clubs are private entities, and information regarding demographic information of eating club members is primarily limited to that collected in the University’s senior survey and the USG-sponsored voluntary COMBO survey. The Task Force on the Relationships between the University and the Eating Clubs published a report in 2010 investigating the role of eating clubs on campus, recommending the removal of barriers to inclusion and diversity and the addition of eating club programming for prospective students and University-sponsored alternative social programming. Demographic collection for exclusive groups is not the norm at Ivy League institutions. Harvard’s student newspaper issued an online survey in 2013 to collect information about final club membership, reporting on ethnicity, sexuality, varsity athletic status, and legacy status.

  • Moments of Life Made Possible by Hospice and a Little Dog…
Summer 2018 3 0 Ye a r s Accredited by the of Service Joint 1988-2018 Commission Moments of Life made possible by Hospice and a little dog… By Janice Valentino as told by Marilyn Serino It had been about six weeks that my brother Michael had been living at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, where I too had been staying for about three weeks. It was mid-February when Mike began talk to me about a dog. I asked if he was talking about his daughter’s dog, Delilah. He replied No. I asked if he was referring to my own dog, Piper. Again, Mike told me No. Mike mentioned the dog a few more times until he finally feel asleep that afternoon. I had no idea what dog he was talking about and soon forgot about it. Later that day, I overheard staff members talking about a little dog that was sleeping under the bushes on the grounds of the residence. Apparently, this little dog was either lost or abandoned and had been seeking refuge from the cold on the property. Being the dog lover that I am, I rescued the little visitor who was badly in need of some TLC, brought her home to be bathed, fed and took her to our vet to be checked out. I was thrilled when she received a clean bill of health. When I returned to Kaplan to be with my brother Mike, I was grateful to be able to bring along my new little friend. When I walked into Mike’s room, his first response was “Oh wow, Crash is here”.

  • Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan Proposed Land
DRECP Proposed LUPA and Final EIS CHAPTER III.8. CULTURAL RESOURCES III.8 CULTURAL RESOURCES This chapter presents the Affected Environment for the Land Use Plan Amendment (LUPA) Decision Area and the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan (DRECP) area for cultural resources. These areas overlap, and in the following programmatic discussion are referred to broadly as the “California Desert Region.” More than 32,000 cultural resources are known in the DRECP area in every existing environmental context ⎼ from mountain crests to dry lake beds ⎼ and include both surface and subsurface deposits. Cultural resources are categorized as buildings, sites, structures, objects, and districts (including cultural landscapes and Traditional Cultural Properties) under the federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). Historic properties are cultural resources included in, or eligible for inclusion in, the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), maintained by the Secretary of the Interior (36 Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] 60.4). See Section III.8.1.1 for more information on federal regulations and historic properties. This chapter discusses three types of cultural resources classified by their origins: prehistoric, ethnographic, and historic. Prehistoric cultural resources are associated with the human occupation of California prior to prolonged European contact. These resources may include sites and deposits, structures, artifacts, rock art, trails, and other traces of Native American human behavior. In California, the prehistoric period began over 12,000 years ago and extended through the eighteenth century until 1769, when the first Europeans settled in California. Ethnographic resources represent the heritage of a particular ethnic or cultural group, such as Native Americans or African, European, Latino, or Asian immigrants.

This includes fostering sound use of our land and water resources; protecting our fish, wildlife, and biological diversity; preserving the environmental and cultural values of our national parks and historical places; and providing for the enjoyment of life through outdoor recreation. The department assesses our energy and mineral resources and works to ensure that their development is in the best interests of all our people by encouraging stewardship and citizen participation in their care.
