STEVE JOHNSON Colorado Singer, Songwriter & Performer Steve Johnson is a Colorado singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and performer. Offering a diverse and engaging mix of classic rock, blues and vocal jazz tunes, Steve’s expressive piano and guitar accompaniment provides a rich musical foundation for his strong, dynamic vocals. As a 3-year-old, Steve’s parents were surprised to hear him picking out nursery rhymes on a toy piano. He began taking piano lessons at age 4 and picked up guitar at age 8. During his school years he learned to play trumpet, trombone, baritone, French horn, tuba, flute and saxophone in school bands, as well as electric piano, electric guitar, bass guitar and drums in his extracurricular bands! Steve studied at Berklee College of Music and earned a 2-year certificate in Music Composition. Professional credits and notable accomplishments include recording for Paul and Linda McCartney, Andy Qunta (Icehouse) and others, and a national tour as sideman with the Swiss metal band Krokus, who performed at the 1986 Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for an audience of 72,000 screaming fans (Van Halen headlining). Steve performs regularly as a solo act in northern Colorado. He can be seen with Elmer Funk, a 10-pc funk horn band, as pianist in the Pourhouse Jazz Trio, and with Tina Marx & The Millionaires, Kahuna Beach Party (Beach Boys tribute band) and a variety of other groups. He’s currently writing and recording new material for a CD and targeting early 2021 release.     PERFORMERS BiU Withers By Rob Bowman He was the leading figure in the nascent black singer-songwriter movement of the early 1970s. BILL WITHERS WAS SIMPLY NOT BORN TO PLAY THE record industry game. His oft-repeated descriptor for A&R men is “antagonistic and redundant.” Not surprisingly, most A&R men at Columbia Records, the label he recorded for beginning in 1975, considered him “difficult.” Yet when given the freedom to follow his muse, Withers wrote, sang, and in many cases produced some of our most enduring classics, including “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Lean on Me,” “Use Me,” “Lovely Day,” “Grandma’s Hands,” and “Who Is He (and What Is He to You).” ^ “Not a lot of people got me,” Withers recently mused. “Here I was, this black guy playing an acoustic guitar, and I wasn’t playing the gut-bucket blues. People had a certain slot that they expected you to fit in to.” ^ Withers’ story is about as improb­ able as it could get. His first hit, “Ain’t No Sunshine,” recorded in 1971 when he was 33, broke nearly every pop music rule. Instead of writing words for a bridge, Withers audaciously repeated “I know” twenty-six times in a row. Moreover, the two-minute song had no introduction and was released as a throwaway B-side. Produced by Stax alumni Booker T. Jones for Sussex Records, the single’s struc­ ture, sound, and sentiment were completely unprecedented and pos­ sessed a melody and lyric that tapped into the Zeitgeist of the era. Like much of Withers’ work, it would ultimately prove to be timeless.

With the album co-compiled by Neville himself, each digitally remastered track was selected for its power of romance rather than its chart position. As a result, Aaron Neville: Love Songs brings most of these songs, spanning the years 1981 to 1997, together for the first time on any compilation. The album is the latest in the artist-driven, genre-crossing yet thematic Love Songs series which has previously included collections from Etta James, Elton John, and Stephanie Mills and is scheduled to release albums from Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, the Moody Blues, Peggy Lee and more. Two recordings heard on Aaron Neville: Love Songs are actually from The Neville Brothers (Aaron, Art, Charles and Cyril): their Nawlins renditions of the doo-wop classic “The Ten Commandments Of Love” and ballad standard “Mona Lisa,” both from the siblings’ 1981 Joel Dorn-produced album Fiyo On The Bayou.
