Basic Funerals is a fully licensed funeral home. All our directors are certified and exceptional at what they do.

What’s different about our company is that we do not own our own chapel or visitation space. Reducing what we have to physically maintain and minimizing overhead costs allows us to reduce the fees we charge to you and all of the families we serve. Our company rents existing public locations across the province to host the services we provide.

Our staff is trained to identify the needs of families and offer them options that suit those needs. We work with them to provide what they want and what their loved one would have wanted.

Our flexibility allows us to provide meaningful service at an affordable cost. Whether we meet in person, converse through email, or discuss over the phone, we work to provide constant and effective communication every step of the way.

Standard Service Charges

Professional Fees Includes the coordination of the process from start to finish with every step either completed or overseen by a licensed funeral director. This includes coordinating with all related parties and completing the required funeral documentation.

This fee is charged based on the postal code of the deceased’s last known address. See Description The charge is as follows:

Coordination of Documentation $100

Transfer into Our Care $250 Equipment and staff (1 or 2, as required) to complete safe transport of the deceased into our care.

Transfer out of Our Care $100 Equipment and staff necessary to complete safe transport of the deceased out of our care. Does not include transfer to airport for shipment of remains.

Facilities for Care of the Deceased $100 Safe shelter in our secure and refrigerated facilities while the necessary documentation is completed. Additional daily storage fees apply when delays are requested/caused.

Budget Service Package

Budget Service Package Designed for families who want nothing more than the cremation process. This simple and easy service provides you with only what you need with no hidden costs or fees $0 Included is a temporary container for the cremated remains, A simple Executor Guide, 5 proof of death certificates and 24-hour services and support. Cremation will take place at one of our preferred crematoriums. The turnaround time for this service is 7 days.

Staffing Fees: Simplified Services

Fees and options available to those wishing for simple services with cremation before or after.

Staff for witnessing or final viewing (up to 30 minutes) Staffing and coordination required to witness the beginning of the cremation process, $295 or a final viewing. Does not include crematorium reservation fees, or chapel rental, if applicable. Preparation fees are not included.

Staff fee for unattended burial of cremated remains Staff to bring cremated remains to cemetery for burial with no family present. Pictures $150 of the burial may be emailed upon request at no additional charge. Does not include cemetery property or opening/closing fees.

Staff fee for committal services $350 Staff to attend a graveside committal service before interring the ashes. Does not include officiant honorarium or cemetery opening and closing fees.

Staff fee for unattended casket burial Staff to arrange and oversee burial of casket with no family presence. Includes all staff $995 necessary to carry casket safely to grave, and unmarked van to bring casket to cemetery.

Staffing Fees: Legacy Celebrations Service Offerings

Fees and options available to those wishing for memorial services or celebrations of life.

Staff fee for Memorial/Celebration Only $495 Staff for coordination, venue set up and presence at a memorial service with urn present. Includes one hour for service.

Staff fee for Memorial/Celebration with Reception/Gathering to Follow $695 Staff for coordination and presence at a memorial service with urn present. Includes up to 3 hours of time for service and reception/gathering.

Additional Hour with Urn $150 Charged per hour after included hour(s) of Memorial Service and/or Reception/Gathering.

Coordination and Itinerary for Multiple-location Event $795 Maximum 4 locations. Staff will maintain scheduling and act as guide throughout event.

Staff Coordination of Outdoor Event $295 Staff planning and presence at an outdoor event such as a scattering ceremony. Specialized supplies charged at cost.

Staff for End of Life Celebration Available to those who meet legal requirements in Ontario for Medical Assistance in $295 Dying (M.A.I.D.) or Expected Death in the Home (E.D.I.T.H.). Staff coordination for gathering where death is expected. Staff will remain to oversee transfer of deceased.

Staff Coordination of Permits $150 Application for special permits and/or licenses. Does not include fees for permits and/or licenses.

Staffing Fees: Traditional Services

Staff for 1 Hour Service Completed at Chapel $595 The arrangement and setup of equipment in the venue or location prior to family arrival. Includes staff attendance for 1st hour.

Staff for Same Day Traditional Service $1,595 Staff for 1 Hour Service with Procession and Graveside to Follow

Staff for Next Day Traditional Service $2,195 Staff for 2 hours visitation the day before, 1 hour service with Procession and Graveside to follow.

Staff fee for additional hour with casket $200 Staff for each additional hour for visitation or funeral service.

Staff fee for Graveside Service $760 Staff presence and direction at the burial location. Does not include officiant.

Staff fee for supervision of Post Funeral Reception $350 Up to 3 hours.

Virtual Services

Virtual Remembrance Package We are here to provide you with innovative ideas to memorialize your loved one which will still offer a communal shared experience and group support from the safety of your home. Includes: $442.48 • Memory Tribute • Stationery • Choice of: o Virtual Final Viewing o Virtual Memorial Service Memory Tribute $100 Send up to 40 photos to our staff to have them arrange a personalized tribute video designed and uploaded to our obituary page.

Virtual Final Viewing We will conduct a final viewing and record it for families to view in the comfort of their $400 home. The deceased will be dressed for the final viewing and placed in a cremation container.

Virtual Memorial Service $400 Our staff will coordinate a personalized virtual service. This service will be edited and uploaded for families to view and share with loved ones.

Body Preparation

Dressing Only $125 This service includes the dressing of your loved one. Does not include any further preparations. Not an available option for viewing.

Alternative Preparation (with shroud) $250 Bathing, shrouding, and application of cosmetics if required. No chemical embalming takes place.

Alternative Preparation (with dressing) $350 Bathing, dressing in clothing supplied by family, and application of cosmetics if required. No chemical embalming takes place.

Embalming Preparation $550 The chemical disinfection, restoration, and temporary preservation of the deceased including bathing, dressing, and cosmetics if required.

Use of Preparation Facilities $395 Staff and dedicated access to our licensed embalming and holding room for the purposes of a ritual washing and/or dressing of human remains.

Additional Service Options

Weekend Surcharge $195 Arranging and staffing visitations or funeral services on Saturday, Sunday, or holidays.

Funeral Van $295 Modified minivan suitable for safe casket transport to grave or other location.

Funeral Coach $495 Decorative specialty vehicle for casket. 3 hours use. Overtime $200 per hour.

Procession Lead Car $395 Leads funeral coach safely to grave. 3 hours use. Overtime $100 per hour.

Flower Vehicle $195 3 hours use. Overtime $100 per hour.

7 passenger Limousine $595 3 hours use. Overtime $200 per hour.

Pallbearer Assistance $125 Per person. Up to 3 hours.

Additional Services

Document or Clothing Pickup $100 One of our staff will visit your home to pick up completed documents, clothing, etc. This does not include staff for the full arrangement process.

In Person Arrangement $200 A meeting with one of our funeral directors to go over all your options and complete the appropriate documentation. Included in Priority service package.

Over-sized Care For people greater than 300lbs. This fee includes everything that may be necessary to $400 handle an over-sized body with care and dignity. Includes any additional staff needed for dignified care of the body as well as an over-sized casket or tray for transportation.

Expedited Burial $200 In the event of a burial being required within 36 hours from the time of signing our contract, we will provide expedited service when possible.

Expedited Cremation $200 Reduces the chosen service package’s timeline by 2 days. Minimum timeline is 3 days.

Canada Post Delivery $100 Delivery of cremated remains to any address in Canada through tracked XpressPost. Tracking number will be provided.

Delivery of Cremated Remains $150 Delivery of cremated remains by our staff, within available areas in Ontario. Mileage may apply.

Mileage $2.5 / km One-way outside 50km from closest city centres: Mississauga, Toronto, London, Windsor, Barrie, Ottawa.

Refundable Deposit for Cremated Remains When human remains are to be cremated, a refundable deposit may be required to be paid at our discretion. If the cremated remains are not claimed within one year of the $350 cremation, the deposit will be used to inter the cremated remains in common ground. If the cremated remains are claimed before they are interred, the deposit will be refunded.

Centenary Discount -$100+ As a small token of respect for an individual who lives for 100 years or more, a discount matching the final age will be applied to the contract at the time of need.

Change of Information Assistance Administration of a Change of Information Application (Form 23) after the death has $250 been registered with family verified information. Does not include $22.00 government fee or fees for translations, notarized documents, etc.

Additional Storage for Care of the Deceased $40/day Chargeable per day of requested human remains storage in a licensed holding facility. Does not apply for day(s) of storage necessary to complete planned arrangements.

Staff for coordination for the shipment of human remains within North America $895 Staff and coordination to accommodate shipment of human remains within North America. Includes arranging all necessary documents, staff, and vehicles. Disbursement fees associated with documentation and flight not included.

Staff for coordination for the shipment of human remains outside of North America Staff and coordination to accommodate shipment of human remains outside North $1,395 America. Includes arranging all necessary documents, staff, consulate coordination, and vehicles. Disbursement fees associated with documentation and flight not included.

Transfer to/from Airport $250 Staff to transfer casket to or from airport.

Provincial Park Scattering of Remains $150 Includes scattering at the next bi-annual date at an Ontario Provincial Park. We supply Cemetery’s Certificate of Cremation for family’s records.

Newspaper Notice Coordination $100 Assistance with a newspaper obituary submission*. Your choice of words will be placed in any newspaper. * Newspaper fees apply

Staff for Certified Copies of the Death Registration Staff, documentation, and necessary vehicles required to apply for provincial $50 certificates. Used for estate matters outside Canada. * Does not include government charges to apply ($22.00 per copy requested, 8-12 week typical timeline)

Estimate of Disbursements

Disbursements are items arranged for and possibly paid for on your behalf by us. The following are some items that are often identified as disbursements.

Cremation fee $581.95 Varies based on crematorium selected.

Coroner’s cremation certificate (HST exempt) $75 This is a fee charged by the coroner for issuing a certificate that allows cremation to take place. The fee is set by the Chief Coroner for Ontario.

Death registration (HST exempt) $55 This is a fee charged by the local municipality to register the death. The fee is set by each municipality and may vary.

Chapel Fee ~$300/hr Varies based on chapel selected.

Payment, Financing and Funding

Payment Unless otherwise specified, payment is due upon signing of the contract. Payment may be made by cash, cheque, email money transfer, and most major credit cards. Beyond the allotted time, interest will be charged at 1.25% per month (equivalent to 15% per annum).

At Need funding For your convenience, we will waive any interest fees if we receive confirmation that payment will be expected from life insurance, or an account in the beneficiary’s name. If finances are an issue, we also have contact information for community and city programs which can assist with the payment of funeral expenses.

Pre funding For your convenience, we offer two funding options when prepaying services or supplies. When prepaying, you pay for the services and supplies today, and the money will be used to pay for the services and supplies when they are delivered at the time of death.

• Trust Upon signing a prepaid funeral service contract, your money will be placed in trust by us, where it will accrue interest until the contract is fulfilled (when the services and supplies are delivered) or the contract is cancelled. • Insurance Upon signing a prepaid funeral service contract, we will facilitate your purchase of an insurance or annuity contract where the proceeds of the policy will be used to pay for the services or supplies at the time they are delivered.
