ENROLMENT UPDATE

Enrolment Information: Who does this affect? The enrolment for the first P1 class at Primary begins this August.

A consultation was held to establish a new non-denominational primary school and catchment area within the North of the city and to amend the catchment areas for Cadder, Caldercuilt, , Parkview, Highpark, Dunard, Saracen, Oakgrove and Royston Primary Schools.

You will be aware that building works are now well under way for the new North Kelvinside Primary. Due to the pandemic the building works were temporarily suspended. However, the construction has now restarted. Once construction is complete the new school building will include 12 classrooms, various break-out spaces, a multi-purpose games / assembly hall, a drama space, a nurture room and a meeting room, as well as staff and support spaces. Outside, within the school playground, there will be an all weather pitch which will be available to let out-with school operational hours and an external multi use games area (MUGA) which will be available for community use out-with school hours.

The new building will be opened during the course of session 21/22. You will appreciate that although we are currently on track for March 2022, we are mindful of the ongoing Covid19 situation and how that may impact any planned timescales.

You may have a child now ready to enrol for Primary 1 starting in August 21. The enrolment for the first Primary 1 class at North Kelvinside Primary will begin shortly.

We intend to form a North Kelvinside Primary 1 class in August 2021. This class will be temporarily located within the St Charles’ Primary School building; it will not be part of St Charles’ school. The North Kelvinside Primary 1 class will have its own Headteacher based in St Charles’ in preparation for the planned move to the new school building in March 2022. The children will, of course, be able to join in with some of the activities at St Charles’. Throughout 2021/22, the Headteacher of the new school will be getting to know the P2 to P7 children from Cadder, Caldercuilt, Kelvindale, Parkview, Highpark, Dunard, Saracen, Oakgrove and Royston Primary Schools and there will be a range of activities planned to allow the children to build relationships with each other before they transition to the new school building when it opens.

There will be families who have a child about to start at North Kelvinside with siblings at other schools which are no longer their catchment school i.e. Cadder, Caldercuilt, Kelvindale, Parkview, Highpark, Dunard, Saracen, Oakgrove and Royston primaries.

ENROLMENT UPDATE

If you have a child currently in P1 to P5 in these schools your new P1 child will be able to attend that school unless you advise us otherwise during the enrolment process. Current P6 and P7 children will remain in their current school until transition to secondary.

We will be in contact with you in January 2022 to discuss arrangements for older children (current P1 to P5) to move over to the new school. We understand that this will be a decision which will require careful consideration for individual families. As previously stated if you currently have a child in P1 to P5 in Cadder, Caldercuilt, Kelvindale, Parkview, Highpark, Dunard, Saracen, Oakgrove and Royston Primary Schools any younger siblings retain a right to enrol in the same school as their brothers or sisters. Any move for older children will be phased and carefully planned and completed by August 2022.

Further to the statutory consultations which resulted in altered catchment areas for a number of non- denominational primary schools in the North West of the city, the relevant changes to both the primary and secondary catchments can be found online when searching for the catchment area When using City Council’s website link Find School Catchment .

Please note, as the parent/ carer you have the right to apply to place your child in a school other than your local school. You must complete an enrolment application before you submit a placing request. Once you submit your enrolment application, you can find information on how to apply for a placing request here.

How can I get involved in supporting the new school?

Parents have an important role to play in the preparation and planning of the new school. A Parent Council has been established and has met. The group has already helped with the process for naming the school and will be working on the following in the coming months:

 Working with pupils to create a new school badge  Helping to choose the new school uniform  Decisions about Out of School Care and selecting a provider  Sharing ideas and being involved in discussions about the progress of the school build

The group is keen to welcome new members. If you are interested in joining please get in touch with Quality Improvement Officer, Kathryn Farrow: [email protected]
