Administration and Management: In practice, these two terms are used interchangeable because both involve the same principles. Somehow, the word management has become popular in business enterprises where economic performance is of primary importance. On the other hand, the term administration is preferred in government departments, hospitals, religious trusts, educational institutions and other non-business organizations. Mhaske Associate Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, VJTI, Mumbai-400019, Maharashtra, India ABSTRACT Verandha Ghat Section is connecting shield-plateau region with Konkan Coastal Belt (KCB) through Bhor Ghat area. Therefore, it is considered as a lifeline of Bhor (in Pune district) and Mahad (Raigarh District of Konkan), of western Maharashtra corridor. Geologically, this region belongs to Ambenali and Mahabaleshwar – Poladpur formation. The area shows thick flows of the Deccan Trap basalt of Upper Cretaceous to Eocene age. All the rock flows of this formation, exposed along this highway are in the form of rock cutting along the Pandharpur-Mahad Maharashtra State Highway -70, in the 74 km Ghat section from Bhor (part of Sahyadri Uplands, from Pune district) onwards and before Mahad (part of Konkan Coastal Belt from Raigarh district) of Maharashtra, are highly susceptible for landslide activity. A detailed exploration was carried out on all along the road section started from Bhor city and it extends up to the Varandah village, at the foot hill of Sahyadri, in Konkan region. In the present context, detailed investigations of the mass movement were carried out to prepare the map of highly vulnerable locations, in the study area. -

Guilmartin, Advisor Alan Beyerchen Ousman Kobo Copyright by Robert H Clemm 2012 Abstract This dissertation documents the ways in which cartography was used during the Scramble for Africa to conceptualize, conquer and administer newly-won European colonies. By comparing the actions of two colonial powers, Germany and Britain, this study exposes how cartography was a constant in the colonial process. Using a three-tiered model of “gazes” (Discoverer, Despot, and Developer) maps are analyzed to show both the different purposes they were used for as well as the common appropriative power of the map. In doing so this study traces how cartography facilitated the colonial process of empire building from the beginnings of exploration to the administration of the colonies of German and British East Africa. During the period of exploration maps served to make the territory of Africa, previously unknown, legible to European audiences. Under the gaze of the Despot the map was used to legitimize the conquest of territory and add a permanence to the European colonies. Lastly, maps aided the capitalist development of the colonies as they were harnessed to make the land, and people, “useful.” Of special highlight is the ways in which maps were used in a similar manner by both private and state entities, suggesting a common understanding of the power of the map. -

During what the present thesis calls the “crisis of Britishness” from 1964 to 1968, the British character of Canada was redefined and Britishness portrayed as something foreign or “other.” This post-British conception of Canada has been buttressed by historians depicting the British connection as a colonial hangover, an externally-derived, narrowly ethnic, nostalgic, or retardant force. However, Britishness, as a unique amalgam of hybrid identities in the Canadian context, in fact took on new and multiple meanings. -

Monnier, Henri (1896–1944) RUSSELL STAPLES Russell Staples, Ph.D. (Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey), is emeritus professor of World Mission at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary, Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan. Henri Monnier was the pioneer missionary to Rwanda whom the locals called “Rukandirango” (The Mighty Man). Early Years Henri Monnier was born in Berne, Switzerland to parents who had been Adventists for ten years and his father was a church elder. He was baptized at age 15. The family moved to Chaux-de-Fonds and he attended the Adventist school at Tramelan. He moved to London in 1915 to avoid being drafted into the army. There, he established a business selling and repairing watches. Marriage In 1919 Henri married Winifred Maddams, who had served in The Salvation Army. Shortly thereafter they met D. E. Delhove, a Belgian who had been sent as a missionary to Kenya by the British Union in 1913. When the First World War broke out, Delhove had been drafted into the Belgian army. He travelled through Rwanda several times during his four years of Henri Monnier conscription in the Belgian Congo, and he was Photo courtesy of Friedensau Archives. positively impressed by the people and the country. Upon returning to his family in Belgium after an absence of five years, he took them to Stanborough School near London to reconnect with the church. Monnier then met the Delhoves in London and shared his passion for mission in Africa with them. Mission to Africa Rwanda had been claimed as a part of German East Africa in 1890, but in 1916 the League of Nations transferred administrative authority to Belgium.
