Contents: The collection consists mostly of Everett Leavins’ photographs arranged by his great-nephew, Mark Leavins. The photographs encompass shots of airplanes and ships operated in during the interwar years of WWI and WWII. The collection also contains personal papers and documents concerning his retirement and death.

Biographical / Historical Sketch: Everett Leavins was born on March 29, 1904, on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi to Daniel and Edith Leavins. For most of his adult life, Leavins lived in the Territory of Hawaii and California where he served mainly as an aircraft mechanic, first in the U.S. Army and then as a federal civilian employee for the Army and Air Force. During his time in Hawaii, he served at Luke Field, an Army air base on Ford Island in the middle of Pearl Harbor and at Hickam Field, an air base adjacent to Pearl Harbor. After his discharge from the Army in 1938, he worked as a federal civilian service for the U.S. military, and in the late 1950s, he transferred to Travis Air Force Base near , California. Leavins died in January 1962, at 57 years of age and was buried in Mobile, Alabama.
