west coast music Midnight Special Please find attached the Midnight Special song list for your review. SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Dance etc) FOUR WEEKS in advance prior to your event so that we can confirm that the band will be able to perform the song(s) and that we are able to locate sheet music. In some cases where sheet music is not available or an arrangement for the full band is need- ed, this gives us the time needed to properly prepare the music and learn the material. Clients are not obligated to send in a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and avoided. Recently, we’ve noticed in increase in cli- ents customizing what the band plays and doesn’t play with very specific detail. If you de- sire the highest degree of control (allowing the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we ask for a minimum of 100 requests. We want you to keep in mind that the band is quite good at reading the room and choosing songs that best connect with your guests. The more specific/selective you are, know that there is greater chance of losing certain song medleys, mashups, or newly released material the band has.

  • Ne-Yo Au Festival Mawazine

Genders OnLine Journal - "I Want It That Way": Teenybopper Music and the Girling of Boy Bands 1/16/12 11:22 PM Genders 35 2002 Copyright ©2002 Ann Kibbey. "I Want It That Way" Back to: Teenybopper Music and the Girling of Boy Bands by GAYLE WALD You are my fire The one desire Believe when I say I want it that way. - Backstreet Boys, "I Want It That Way" [1] Among recent trends in youth music culture, perhaps none has been so widely reviled as the rise of a new generation of manufactured "teenybopper" pop acts. Since the late 1990s, the phenomenal visibility and commercial success of performers such as Britney Spears, the Backstreet Boys, and 'N Sync has inspired anxious public hand-wringing about the shallowness of youth culture, the triumph of commerce over art, and the sacrifice of "depth" to surface and image. By May 2000, so ubiquitous were the jeremiads against teenybopper pop performers and their fans that Pulse, the glossy in-house magazine of Tower Records, would see fit to mock the popularity of Spears and 'N Sync even as it dutifully promoted their newest releases. Featuring a cover photo of a trio of differently outfitted "Britney" dolls alongside a headline reading "Sells Like Teen Spirit"--a pun on the title of the breakthrough megahit ("Smells Like Teen Spirit") by the defunct rock band Nirvana--Pulse coyly plotted the trajectory of a decade's-long decrescendo in popular music: from the promise of grunge, extinguished with the 1994 suicide of Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, to the ascendancy of girl and boy performers with their own look-alike action figures.

Journal of the Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association Volume 12, Number 1 (2012) Bruce Ronkin, Editor Northeastern University Published with Support from Reviews Will Hermes. Love Goes to Buildings on Fire: Five Years in New York That Changed Music Forever. New York: Faber and Faber, Inc., 2011. www.fsgbooks.com. Music scenes have played a major part in the development of popu- lar music and the music industry for decades. Rolling Stone critic Will Hermesʼ book Love Goes to Buildings on Fire, whose title refers to an early Talking Heads song, documents the rich tapestry of music scenes happening in New York City from 1973 to 1978. The author was in high school in Queens during the time, and uses meticulously researched an- ecdotes and interviews along with personal experiences to give the reader an insider’s view of both the music and its relationship to the city. The description is presented in a precisely chronological sequence, constantly switching between multiple narratives in a way that is very contempo- rary yet still cohesive. This technique emphasizes the simultaneity of the different musical movements growing up at the time, and also helps to describe the interaction between them. Creative hybrids and mixing of musical scenes and styles, which were common, are prominent themes throughout the book. In addition to the artists, Hermes documents in de- tail the contributions of labels, studios, radio stations, venues, managers, promoters, and music journalists who helped fuel and fund the musical creativity of the time. New York was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and riddled with crime and drugs during these years, and there is a strong focus on how music related to broader social and economic factors.

Palabras clave: Van Morrison; espacio; gitanos; contracultura; música Abstract The work of Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison has gone relatively unnoticed by critics despite the numerous social, literary and artistic elements included in his songs.
