THE RIGG SCHOLARSHIPS The Rigg Scholarships were established in 1980 in memory of Philip Rigg, a student at the School who passed away before graduating. While also noted as an athlete and a scholar, it was Philip’s 1 GOLD MEDAL pottery, painting, and drawing that made him truly exceptional, and it was these areas of endeavour FOR GRADE 6 SCHOOL BAND his family elected to honour. 8 ENSEMBLES INVITED TO To be chosen as a Rigg Scholar, students must apply and then meet a rigorous set of criteria for Visual Arts, Music, or Theatre Arts. These criteria include not only technical ability, but also demonstrated leadership in their chosen field. Competition is fierce, and each spring ArtsWeek culminates with a THE NATIONALS ceremony naming the coming year’s Rigg Scholars.

THIS IS WHO WE ARE

• EMPATHY is the ability to move beyond ourselves, to identify with others, to walk a mile in another’s shoes. • HUMILITY is the ability to be humble, not to be big-headed or boastful, and to recognize that we all still have a lot to learn. • INTEGRITY is an extension of honesty; it is doing the right thing even if no one is watching. • RESILIENCE is an extension of courage. It’s the ability to recover quickly, and to not give up when beset by setbacks and disappointments. • RESPECT is feeling regard and even admiration for yourself and for others; it is being thoughtful and considerate of others. • RESPONSIBILITY is being accountable, doing our best to meet our commitments, and to OUR CORE VALUES: keep our word.
