Danielle is in 5th grade and an amazing student modeling all McAulliffe holds dear. She exemplifies the spirit of the Character, Academics, Determination, Empathy, and Trustworthiness (CADET). She demonstrates character by helping others though her tireless work in Student Council and as a peer leader. She excels in her academics by holding herself to a standard of excellence. She shows determination by persevering and never giving up, even when tasks and activities are challenging. She is empathetic in her care for her classmates and teachers as well as through her winning science fair project that examined the environmental effects on the biodegradability on plastic bags, paper bags, and newspaper. She is trustworthy because she can be counted on to complete all tasks and assignments that she commits to. Her commitment to McAuliffe is appreciated by all who know her. It is a great pleasure to honor Danielle Ligisan as the Alvord Unified School District Student of the Month for February 2017. b. Certificated Employee of the Month: McAuliffe Elementary School is proud to recognize Kai Kruse as the Alvord Unified School District Certificated Employee of the Month for February 2017. Mr. Kai Kruse’s dedication to the teaching profession and to McAuliffe is very evident. He provides a high quality educational program for all students in his class and he is the kind of teacher that connects with all his students. They respect him and will do anything for Mr. Kruse. Outside of the classroom he has his hands in many extra-curricular activities. He leads Student Council, the recycling program, Science Camp, all fundraising for Science Camp, our Science Fair, the Valet Program and he organized McAuliffe’s participation in the Spirit Run, and is always willing to lend a helping hand. He is one of those amazing teachers who make the school what it is: excellent! Mr. Kruse raises funds to bring down the cost of attending Science Camp. Some families still cannot afford it, so he has arranged the Sponsor a Student Program to send needy students to camp. Mr. Kruse and another teacher work together to provide a variety of workshops for the Science Fair to help parents and students understand what it takes to produce a quality science project. It is a great pleasure to honor Kai Kruse as the Alvord Unified School District Certificated Employee of the Month for February 2017. Classified Employee of the Month: McAuliffe Elementary School is proud to recognize Aven Callahan as the Alvord Unified School District Classified Employee of the Month for February 2017. She has gone above and beyond to show students how to look for books by research topic, provides an excellent story time for younger students and has updated the library collection over the years with quality books that are relevant and of high interest. She not only wears the library assistant hat, but is also the mother of Brendan Callahan, fourth grade student, who is an excellent student. Aven is part of McAuliffe’s PTA and has served as treasurer for the last two years. She has been a big advocate of bringing educational programs to McAuliffe such as, Art Smarts, Mad Science, and Coding for Students and other quality programs. She has also been a big proponent of updating the technology. She has been able to convince PTA (when convincing needed to happen) to purchase a printer for each teacher, new IPads for the STEAM program, and new laptops for teachers. Her priority is where it needs to be and that’s on improving the educational program at McAuliffe. It is a great pleasure to honor Aven Callahan as the Alvord Unified School District Classified Employee of the Month for February 2017. d. She has been a key organizer for Fit Friday Walks every Friday. She leads a walking group of more than 30 students from the corner of Stonewall and Golden Avenue every Friday morning as part of the Staying Fit Program. In addition, she is one of the super volunteers for the 100-Mile Club. You can always find Mrs. DeHaro at the finish line passing out sticks after each student finishes one fourth of a mile. In 2001, the City Council appointed a task force of prominent citizens to lay the groundwork for the creation of the Riverside Sport Hall of Fame. Dr. Charles Kane, a great fan of “the game” and a former Riverside Community College President, was appointed its first chairperson. Under his direction, the group delivered on the promise to honor Riverside’s sports heroes and celebrate the accomplishments of exceptional student athletes. Dr. Kane’s vision and leadership set RSHOF on a great civic path. It is the organization’s responsibility to continue that journey. Every activity that the Riverside Sport Hall of Fame produces is a tribute to his foresight and is reflective of Riverside’s commitment to celebrate its vibrant history of athletic success and recognize the positive impact athletics has on the lives of Riverside’s youth. Our Mission The Riverside Sport Hall of Fame is dedicated to fostering an appreciation for the role sports play in contributing to the quality of life in Riverside. The Hall of Fame honors athletes, coaches, athletic administrators and community leaders who have brought fame or honor to the City of Riverside through their involvement in athletics.
