MARY'S, UCLA VIE FOR CLASSIC TITLE The 17th Annual UCLA Pacific Soccer Classic, presented by Big 5 Sporting CLASSIC SCHEDULE: Goods — The UCLA men's soccer team will host the premiere West Coast @ Frank W. Marshall Field at Drake Sta- tournament Oct. 26 and 28 at Frank W. Marshall Field at Drake Stadium. The dium tournament field includes three-time NCAA champion UCLA (6-6-2), 1993 Fri. 10/26 — NCAA finalist and 12th-ranked South Carolina (8-3-1), Cal State Fullerton (5-6- CS Fullerton vs. South Carolina, Noon 1) and St. Mary's (5-5-1). UCLA vs. St. Mary's, 3:00 pm Tournament Schedule — The tournament kicks off Friday, Oct. 26. Cal State @ Frank W. Marshall Field at Drake Sta- Fullerton will take on South Carolina at 12:00 pm, followed by UCLA versus St. dium Mary's at 3:00 pm. On Sunday, Oct. 28, Fullerton will face St. Mary's at 11:00 am. Sun. 10/28— Following that game at approximately 2:00 pm will be the Classic's marquee CS Fullerton vs. St. Mary's 11:00 am matchup between UCLA and South Carolina. UCLA vs. South Carolina, 2:00 pm Tournament Format — With tournament pairings set in advance, a point system Tickets (310/UCLA-WIN): will be used to determine the champion. Three points will be awarded for each win, $6 for adults, $4 for youth under 12; and one point for each tie. Head-to-head competition, goal differential, goals $4 group rate (groups of 15 or more) scored and goals allowed will be used as tie-breakers, if necessary. Tournament History — UCLA has won the Classic a record 11 times, including the last four times. Cal State Fullerton has won one Classic title in 1994. In St. Mary's TOURNAMENT TIDBITS: only appearance, in 1998, the Gaels went 1-1 with a 3-1 win over Loyola Marymount • UCLA won the last Pacific Soccer and a 2-0 loss to UCLA. The finalists were determined in voting by Division I men's head coaches at institutions who are members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Will Bruin from Indiana, Darlington Nagbe from Akron, and Colin Rolfe from Louisville are the three finalists for the award. The trio will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 7, for a news conference, where the winner of the award will be revealed (approximately 7 p.m. EST). A banquet at the Club that evening will feature the formal presentation of the prestigious crystal soccer ball trophy to the winner. Bruin, a junior forward from St. Louis, Mo., was the 2010 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. He appeared in all 20 games and helped Indiana reach the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Bruin led the Hoosiers in scoring with 41 points on 18 goals and five assists. He ranked third in the nation in points and points per game (2.05). Bruin posted three game-winning goals during the season.
