CSO Audio Engineer Charlie Post Receives His First Grammy Award with Engineers David Frost and Silas Brown

CHICAGO—The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association (CSOA) is pleased to announce that its 2020 CSO Resound release—Shostakovich Symphony No. 13 (Babi Yar) featuring Zell Music Director Riccardo Muti leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Men of the , prepared by Chorus Director , and soloist Alexey Tikhomirov— has won a Grammy Award in the category of Best Engineered Recording–Classical. Announced during the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony on March 14, 2021, the Award recognizes first-time Grammy winner and CSO Audio Engineer Charlie Post, who was the recording engineer for this release, which was produced, edited and mixed by multiple Grammy Award– winner David Frost, and mastered by Silas Brown, who marks his third Grammy win with this Award. Engineer David Frost received two additional awards for Best Opera Recording (for the Metropolitan Opera’s recording of ) and as Producer of the Year–Classical for his body of work over the last year, including Shostakovich Symphony No. 13 (Babi Yar). This brings Frost’s personal Grammy Award total to 19.

This is the first Grammy Award for Post, who has been the CSO’s Audio Engineer since September 2014. Before coming to Chicago, Post spent 10 years in commercial studios in New York City and three years as a freelance audio engineer for venues in the Miami area, including the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts and the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theatre. In addition, Post worked from 2007 through 2016 as the chief audio engineer at Ozawa Hall at the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, Mass., the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Recordings by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus have earned 63 Grammy Awards, including two in 2011 for Muti’s recording with the CSO and Chorus of Verdi's Messa da Requiem (Muti’s first of eight releases with the CSO to date).
