The numerical simulation method for the accurate prediction of icing shape is an important method to evaluate icing hazards and develop aircraft icing protection systems. Referring to the phase-field method, a new ice accretion mathematical model is developed to predict the ice shape. The mass fraction of ice in the mixture is selected as the phase parameter, and the phase equation is established with a freezing coefficient. Meanwhile, the mixture thickness and temperature are determined by combining mass conservation and energy balance. Ice accretions are simulated under typical ice conditions, including rime ice, glaze ice and mixed ice, and the ice shape and its characteristics are analyzed and compared with those provided by experiments and LEWICE. The results show that the phase-field ice accretion model can predict the ice shape under different icing conditions, especially reflecting some main characteristics of glaze ice. Sulfur-containing fossil fuels, such as coal, produce sulfate aerosols. Air density The ratio of the mass of a substance to the volume occupied by it. To solve this issue, a novel method is first proposed to detect glaze icing load via embedding three optical fibers with fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) into a 10 kV composite insulator. Specifically, FBG temperature compensation sensors were packaged in ceramic tubes to solve strain and temperature cross-sensitivity. Temperature effect experiments and simulated glaze icing load experiments were performed to verify the feasibility of the proposed method. The results show that temperature sensitivities of all FBGs are identical (i.e., 10.68 pm/◦C), which achieves a simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain. In addition, the proposed method can detect glaze icing load of the composite insulator above 0.5 N (i.e., 15% of icicle bridged degree) in the laboratory. In this work, the icing index is calculated using linear interpolation and based on temperature and relative humidity (RH) curves obtained from radiosonde observations in China. The results show that: (1) there are obvious differences in icing index distribution in parameter over various climatic regions of China. The differences are reflected in duration, main altitude, and ice intensity. The reason for the differences is related to the temperature and humidity environment. (2) Before and after the summer rainfall process, there are obvious changes in the ice accretion index in the 4–6 km altitude area of Northeast China, and the areas with serious ice accretion are coincident with areas with large rainfall estimates. -
