Are you searching for something more in your life? Tired of the status quo? Do you desire a deeper relationship with Christ but are not sure how? Associate's Day was created to help feed this hunger and enable you to grow in your Catholic faith.

The Shepherd’s Café, a ministry started by Yong Oh has been active now for 10 years. In 2010, the ministry moved back to Dallas Diocese from Ft. Worth Diocese and made Mary Immacu- late their home. After taking a year off for time of prayer, rest, and discernment, the ministry returned this past August.

Upon their return, they sensed a calling to expand its mission from their monthly Saturday night "coffee house" event consisting of adoration, concert, and fel- lowship to include the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal from New York for a day of prayer, community, for- mation, and outreach to the poor. Through further discernment and spiritual guidance and mentorship from Fr Jeremiah Shryock , CFR, “Associate’s Day” was formed.

Each month on the Sunday after Shepherd’s Café’s event, the Associates of Shepherds Café gather to pray, receive formation, experience community and provide outreach to the poor in Dallas. This exciting new min- istry is led by the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (www.franciscanfriars.com).

Associates of Shepherd’s Cafe Each Associate’s Day contains four pillars:  The first pillar is prayer. During Associate’s Day we will be praying Morning Prayer, Mid-afternoon prayer and Evening prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours (i.e. Divine Office) and there will also be an hour of Eu- charistic adoration.

 The second pillar is formation. Each Associate’s Day will contain a talk by one of the Franciscan Friars on various topics (such as prayer, discipleship, ministry, etc.), intending to form the mind and heart of the believer.

 The third pillar is community. Each Associate’s Day will contain people of various ages with the same struggles, questions and desires. These days provide the opportunity to be encouraged and strengthened by one another and to meet people who are on the same journey as you.

Congratulations to Our Bishop’s Service Award Recipients

ast Saturday I was invited to the Cathedral to receive the Bishop's award for service to the Catholic Carol, Tom and Alice Musso L community. What an honor! I was able to bring my mother, my wife, my daughter and her 2 kids and friends with me to witness the presentation. I was one of about 130 recipients from throughout the diocese, representing over 50 parishes.

When Father Michael informed me of the award and congratulated me, I was rather surprised. I had not received the letter from the diocese office and I really didn't think I was deserving of such an honor. Dur- ing the homily of the Mass to receive the award, Bishop Kelly actually summed up my feelings. He said that all of us probably had feelings that we were not worthy of praise, that we felt that others deserved that award more than us, and that whatever we do for the Church was done because we wanted to help, not for any recognition or thanks. He said it was normal for us to have those feelings, but that we did really deserve it and to accept it, thanking God for our ability to serve others.

This honor came at a near perfect time for me. Interim Bishop Kelly is one of my favorite people. I feel that I can relate to him since I have had a few short conversations with him when he celebrated Mass as a at Mary Immaculate to fill in for Fr. Michael. Also, he has family in our parish and considers Mary Immaculate his home parish in many ways.

I am humbled to have been considered for the recognition. I appreciate the thanks and the friendship from those whom I may have come in contact with at our parish over the years. I have enjoyed every moment that I have spent working and playing in the parish. I have received much more from my activities in the parish than I feel I have given to the parish. And I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to volunteer and come closer to everyone else in the parish. By Tom Musso ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–———————————————————————————————————— would like to start by thanking God for letting me be part of this community I and to serve Him at Mary Immaculate Church. My parents put the seed of service in my heart and God keeps it going. My wife is an extraordinary support in this task to serve the Lord, so thanks Gio. Also, I want to thank Father Michael and all the parishioners for all the help and support I have received from them to better serve the Lord.

Receiving the Bishops award is a humbling experience. Different kinds of feel- ings were felt as we found out about the award and also at the moment I received it. Receiving the award in the context of the Mass was amazing, since the Mass itself implies the thanksgiving for the gifts we have received and the fruits we can Abigail & Hugo Ascencio, produce by putting them to work. The 635 Last month around 500 young adults from all over the Metroplex, from as far away as Grand Prairie, Prosper, and Fort Worth, came together at the Granada Theater in Dallas for the 635. The 635's mission is to bring young adults from every walk of life together to encounter an authentic community and a message of commit- ment to Jesus Christ. Each month young adults gather for praise and worship, a message from a speaker and fellowship. In January, Dave and Lauren Moore led worship while Ennie Hickman, from Adore Ministries, delivered the message.

Many young adults from Mary Immaculate attended as well. Cristina Miljares, a MIYA member, said this about her experience, "It's a great way for people from all faiths, no matter where you are, to get together and praise God!"

The 635 meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:35 p.m. at the Granada Theater. For more infor- mation, please visit their website at www.the635.org or visit their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ the635Dallas/

Hope to see you there!

Pinewood Derby Day

It was a great day for Maddox Vasinda at the Pinewood Derby on Saturday February 4, 2017. This is Maddox's first year in Cub Scouts and his first Pinewood Derby event. He received a First Place trophy in his Tiger Cubs den and was awarded the Grand Champion trophy for his entire pack! Of course, this would not have been possible without the help of a few friends and family members. Maddox came up with the sleek design of what he wanted his car to look like and Mr. Jerry Murawski helped him cut it out. He also had help from Mr. Raun Greenstreet to make sure the car was the proper weight after the weights were put in by his grandfather Tom Musso. Maddox had so much fun working with his Pawpaw and is so grateful for everyone's help! He and his mom Melissa had a blast painting his car and putting it together. He chose silver paint because he said fast cars are painted silver and decided to draw decorations on it so the car would not be weighed down by extra "bells and whistles." Maddox really enjoyed just being with his Cub Scout friends on that special day and is looking forward to having fun at next year's Pinewood Derby.
