Within a sacred space, a pregnant woman is perhaps reflecting on the future of her children. Research on Upper Palaeolithic representations in French and Spanish sites (30.000-12.000 B.P) has shown that more than half of the images of impressed human hands belong to women and children. For example, in the cave of Fuente del Trucho (Huesca), we see that most of the hands were impressions made by children and infants.

A good example is the miniature tools related to the process of spinning. It is probable that older women taught young girls how to spin wool into balls, later be used to make blankets, outdoor clothing, and other types of textiles. This involved learning how to move the hands and arms, and how to manipulate the spindle with agility. Clearly this would have been an important experience for young girls learning the process of textile weaving.
