The summary account below omits one of the most striking cases, that through Grace Cooke1 but raises the question – who was the mystery Scottish lady who impressed Lady Conan Doyle? —~§~— Across the Gulf – by Maurice Barbanell, Psychic Press, 1940, pages 49-62: A FEW minutes after he died, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle announced that fact in a dramatic fashion to one of his daughters. Mary Conan Doyle was in her father’s psychic library and bookshop in Victoria, South West London, when, to her surprise, the charwoman became entranced. Sir Arthur spoke through her lips and told Mary that he had passed on a few minutes ago. This was her first news of his death. -

Mrs. Etta Bledsoe, one of the most noted mediums in the United States, who passed away recently, also spoke.4 The voices were so clear, distinct and natural that it was decided to make an effort to record them. 1. Some readers sailed through the book as though the wind was always at their backs while others who had little previous exposure to one or two subjects were tacking headwinds from time to time. The feedback I received from all who partici- pated helped me in the final completion of this book and I am truly grateful for their support. -
SPIRITUALISM the Past, the Present and the Future?
SPIRITUALISM The Past, The Present and The Future? Stewart Alexander Introduction My deep involvement in Spiritualism may be traced back almost fifty years, during which time I have gradually amassed an extensive library of books, cassette and CD recordings plus various Spiritual paraphernalia. Amongst the collection are long out-of-print Spiritualist and Psychical Research books and also recordings of elderly Spiritualists (most of whom have since have departed this earth) recollecting their past séance room experiences with Physical mediums who today we can only read about. Additionally, I am the proud possessor of such items as Mrs Maud Gunning’s one time celluloid séance room trumpet. Although a powerful Physical medium, she was in many ways a private medium whose name rarely came before the public, so that sadly her wonderful séance room manifestations are largely unknown to present day Spiritualists. In respect of the fascinating experience recordings in my possession, they have now sat on my library shelves for (in most instances) well over 20 years, during which time doubtlessly they have sadly deteriorated. However, in recent times, I have determined to preserve them whilst there is still time. Therefore the long process of transferring them onto CD has begun, and for that I am greatly indebted to several of my aquaintances who, with the necessary equipment, kindly undertook the task on my behalf. Once completed, various extracts were selected and then grouped together onto ‘Compilation’ CD’s which are now available to Spiritualists and all other interested parties. For anyone interested in the Physical phenomena of the Séance room, those accounts may well transcend the ‘boggle factor’ and will perhaps convey to the listener the reason why the Spiritualist movement was once so very vibrant and progressive. -

Rezensionen Zeitschrift Für Anomalistik 2009
Zeitschrift für Anomalistik Band 9 (2009), S. 271-332 Rezensionen Stephen E. Braude The Gold Leaf Lady and Other Parapsychological Investigations. Vor allem 1 Andreas Sommer, M.A., ist Doktorand am Department of Science and Technology Studies, Univer- sity College London, Großbritannien. -
Lecture 7 Mental Mediums
Science and the Paranormal Sought Afterlife Contacts Mental Mediums Lecture 7 Mental Mediums Mental mediums function in a variety of ways Reading: The medium sees, hears or senses a deceased person and provides his impressions to the participant. This is by far the most used mediumistic process. Trance: Their spirit contacts speak through and move their unconscious bodies. (They have no memory of session) Voice: An independent voice created by either a trance or conscious medium. Early with trumpets but later without. In tests the voices heard while the medium had a mouth full of water.marbles etc. Automatic writing: Writing under the control of the subconscious. It was the most widely used method in the classical period. Has been used by psychiatrists as an analysis tool and many books have been dictated in this way. (One medium’s AW was written by the pen while it was held erect by the back of the medium’s hand) Emmanuel Swedenborg 1688-1772 –One of the most eminent scientists and engineers of his time, spoke 11 languages –In midlife a vision of God commanding him to “explain the scriptures to man” and the ability to visit heaven and talk to angels caused him to devote his life to theological writings. –Kant was intrigued by his writings –Swedenborgian Churches still exist Andrew Jackson Davis 1826-1910 John the Baptist of modern Spiritualism He thought he had seen Swedenborg In 1845 he began trance dictation of “The Principles of Nature: Her Divine Revelations and A Voice to Mankind”. It took 15 months and was observed by many witnesses.
