This course falls into social analysis and visual and performance arts analysis and practice because it shows how punk, as a subculture, has influenced alternative economic practices, led to political mobilization, and challenged social norms. This course situates the activity of listening to punk music in its broader cultural ideologies, such as the DIY (do-it-yourself) ideal, which includes nontraditional musical pedagogy and composition, cooperatively owned performance venues, and underground distribution and circulation practices. Students learn to analyze punk subculture as an alternative social formation and how punk productions confront and are times co-opted by capitalistic logic and normative economic, political and social arrangements. 3. • Mark T. Wendell Catalogs
Welcome to the Mark T. Wendell Tea Company’s 2020 Catalog As one of the country’s oldest and storied tea importers, the Mark T. Wendell Tea Company has been providing fine teas to tea enthusiasts for over a century. We are pleased to offer a full range of estate grown specialty teas, signature tea blends, herbal and fruit tisanes, imported packaged tea brands, as well as a wide selection of uniquely crafted teapots and tea brewing accessories. Our philosophy is to select and purchase only the highest quality whole leaf teas from tea gardens and tea importers located around the world and to offer them to tea enthusiasts with a distinct focus on each customer’s satisfaction. The remarkable world of healthy and invigorating specialty teas has never been so accessible! Importing our tea offerings over the past year has been challenging on several fronts, all unprecedented in recent memory. Our government’s implementation of an import tax on Chinese teas left us with varying price increases on not only teas from China, but many teas produced in other countries. There is no replacement for authentic Chinese teas, so we have tried to minimize these sharp price increases as best we can without sacrificing the quality that stands behind our brand. New for 2020, our focus on quality and ingenuity has allowed us to represent two unique British tea brands as their US distributor. With fun flavors and eco- friendly packaging, the range of Hampstead Organic & Biodynamic Teas and We Are Tea offerings now spotlight our imported packaged brand selections.

T h e P o s t It D ia ries Memos from the unreal world by Amy Adoyzie I’m a sucker. A neurotic, sentimental fool whose guiltiest of pleasures are televised human interest stories, journalistic filler about the strength of the human spirit, the virtues of hard work and inspirational shit that makes you weepy. They are tales made up with enough cliches to fill a hundred Bah-bah-wah Walters specials of "overcoming adversity," "beating the odds," and/or " making dreams come true." I've always been fascinated by the magic turning a dream into reality, and the folks who have the power to do so like Mickey Mouse, Oprah Winfrey, Santa and me. Yup, everyone’s favorite riffle chinky is a dream come true maker, if only on a slightly pedestrian scale. Perhaps it wasn’t a full-fledged fly to space or win a date with heart throb Zack Morris dream come true, but it was something solid, tangible and gave me health benefits after three months. I got a job. Cliche but true: My folks are refugee immigrants who came to this country without a dollar between them. Somewhere in between sweatshop labor, a job at a box factory and trying to forget a war while starting a new life in a foreign place- they squeezed out three babies. I was the first one. Dad named me after the president’s daughter, Amy Carter, a symbol and gesture that is layered in so much depth and solidified my destiny of mediocre success. As very pragmatic people and reasonable dreamers, my parents are aware of what's possible and don’t ask too much.

  • Punk? Punk, Punks, Pre- Punk, Post- Punk? MATHIEU VALADE
From the very beginning, punk was closely linked with Situationist thought, from which it borrowed its negativity, deviancy, nihilis- tic violence and disgust with the era. But its ties to avant-garde movements go back even further, reflecting a Dadaist arrogance, a Futurist defence of noise, an Arthur Cravan-like taste for provoca- tion and, like all avant-garde movements perhaps, a short future. It was pronounced dead, in fact, as early as 1978 in a provocative act of self-sabotage, which was followed by countless resurrec- tions, as if this killing were not definitive. With Post-Punk Art Now it is this heritage that is being explored, not only in terms of ideology (DIY, anarchism) but aesthetics: its taste for ugliness, reappropriation of violence, intrinsic hybridiza- tion that excluded all dogmas, its hijacking of oppressive symbols and perception of art in terms of its negation. Like all avant-garde movements, punk wanted above all to wipe the slate clean. This project seeks to examine this new slate not with the aim of repro- ducing it, but rather of weighing its heritage in artistic terms, of assessing its impact on the world of today and tomorrow. Although punk is already in the museum, we can expect it to re-emerge in new subversive forms, reflecting what it really is: a bastard cultural movement that cannot be consistently portrayed; a creative force mixed with self-destructive instincts, fully capa- ble of toppling its own statues.
