INDIVIDUAL NOTES  Senior inside receiver Dwayne Harris, the East Carolina career leader in receptions (237) and receiving yards (2,701), made seven catches for 73 yards. He has caught at least one pass in 40-straight games, the second-longest streak at the FBS level - trailing only Colorado’s Scotty McKnight (45). Harris also has two or more receptions in 33 consecutive contests. He entered the game ranked sixth nationally this season in receptions per game (7.9).  Harris tallied 113 all-purpose yards, giving him 1,525 this season - an average of 169.4 yards per contest. He has also accounted for nine this year. Harris entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in all-purpose yards per game (176.5).  Harris brought his total to 823 receiving yards this season, the sixth most in a year in ECU program history.  Harris’ first and fourth-quarter touchdowns moved him into sole possession of second on ECU’s all-time TD receptions list with 18, three behind Larry Shannon (21/1994-97). Harris also has eight receiving scores this season, tied for the sixth most in a year in Pirate history.  After a two-game drought, Harris has scored at least one in two-straight games. His two receiving scores today tied his career high.  Junior Dominique Davis accounted for all five of the team’s offensive touchdowns today. This season, Davis has accounted for 33 of the team’s 41 offensive TDs. He entered the day leading the country in points per game accounted for (21.0).  Davis set single-game school records for completions (43) and attempts (65) and finished one yard shy of the passing yardage record with 413. threw for 414 yards Nov. 21, 1998, against Memphis.  Davis completed 30 or more passes (43) for the third time in the last four games, and fifth time this season. He entered the game ranked second in the NCAA in completions per game (29.4). Davis’ 43 completions today also give him a school-record 278 this season.  Davis’ five touchdown passes tied his career high, as well as the ECU single-game record. Jeff Blake threw five touchdown passes against Southern Miss, Nov. 9, 1991, and Davis threw five against Tulsa in the season opener. Davis now has 26 TD tosses this season, two behind Blake’s single-season record of 28, set in 1991.  Senior Jonathan Williams caught six passes to bring his total to 40 this year, setting the ECU single-season record for receptions by a running back, surpassing Jerris McPhail’s 38 grabs in 1995. Williams’ first-quarter, 25-yard reception was a career long grab.  Freshman running back Michael Dobson established a career high in carries five, including two in the first quarter.  Junior inside receiver Michael Byrd’s first-quarter touchdown was the first catch of his career.  Junior inside receiver Lance Lewis hauled in nine balls to bring his total to 57 this season. Lewis is ranked seventh on the ECU single- season receptions list, 20 behind Terrance Copper’s 87 catches in 2003.  Lewis hauled in a career-long, 61-yard reception in the third quarter en route to a personal-best 118 yards in the game.  Lewis’ second and third-quarter touchdown receptions give him nine scores this season, tied for the third most in a year in program history. Lewis has scored at least once in five of the last six games and tied his personal best with two scores in today’s game.  Sophomore lineman Robert Jones recovered his first career fumble during a first-quarter kickoff return by Navy’s Marcus Thomas.  Junior kicker Ben Ryan was credited with his first career forced fumble, jarring the ball loose from Thomas on the return.  True freshman Lee Peques made his first career appearance, eliminating a possible redshirt season. He finished the game with four tackles.  Junior free safety Derek Blacknall booked a career-high, and team-leading, nine tackles.  Freshman Matt Milner tallied a personal-best eight tackles.  Senior Josh Smith finished with two tackles for a loss (-5 yds.), equaling his total for the season entering the game.  Senior linebacker Dustin Lineback recorded eight tackles to bring his total to 62 in the last six games (10.3 tpg). He entered the game ranked 35th in the NCAA in tackles per game (9.3).  Senior cornerback Travis Simmons did not start the game (left ankle injury), snapping his ECU-defense leading string of 26-straight starts. Junior Emanuel Davis now owns the longest starting run for the defense at 15 games.  Sophomore Jacobi Jenkins made his first career start, replacing Simmons at cornerback.  Sophomore linebacker Lamar McLendon’s first-quarter tackle for a loss gives him a TFL in four of the last five games.  Harris’ seven receptions moved him past JaJuan Dawson (Tulane/236/1996-98) and into fifth on the Conference USA all-time list. Harris now has 237 career receptions.  Harris’ 23 kickoff moved him past William White (Army/2,035/2000-03) and into ninth on the Conference USA all-time list. Harris has 2,052 kickoff return yards and is also 11th on the C-USA kickoff return list with 87.

WITH THE LOSS  With the loss, ECU has … o Won nine of the last 14, 11 of the last 17 and 13 of the last 20 games o Has won eight of 10 meetings against military academies that annually compete for the Commander-In-Chief Trophy o Had its seven-game home winning streak snapped; ECU’s last home loss was Nov. 5, 2009, against Virginia Tech. o Has won 26 of the last 28 games when scoring 30 or more points  East Carolina falls to 5-4 overall. It is the second-straight year, and fourth time in the last five, the Pirates have been 5-4 though nine games.  Navy improves to 2-0 all time against the Pirates. The Midshipmen won the initial series meeting 28-23 at Annapolis, Md., Sept. 2, 2006, in the season opener for both teams. o The two teams will meet next year in Annapolis before closing out the series at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in 2012.  Since accepting membership in Conference USA, the Pirates are now 20-37 (.351) in non-league contests.

TEAM NOTES  With Jacobi Jenkins making his first career start, at cornerback, 22 Pirates, 10 offensive and 12 defensive, have made their initial starts in 2010.  With the loss, East Carolina’s seven-game home winning streak was snapped. Since 1980, the Pirates have had four home winning streaks of seven games or more (2009-10/7, 1994-96/9, 1990-91/7 and 1982-83/8).  The Pirates completed the 2010 non-conference schedule with a 1-3 mark. It is the second-straight season, and third in the last four, ECU has gone 1-3 in non-league action. Of the Pirates’ last 30 non-conference opponents (since 2003), 27 have represented automatic-qualifying BCS-member leagues (Navy in ’06, ’10 and Appalachian State in ’09 are the only exceptions).  The two teams scored 28 total points in the first quarter, the highest-scoring opening frame for the Pirates since they combined with Memphis to score 31 in the second game of the year.  The 76 points by Navy are the most East Carolina has surrendered this season, a new Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium record for points scored by an opponent and the second most ever scored by an opponent. o The Midshipmen’s 27 points in the third quarter are the most allowed in a frame since Louisville scored 28 in the third quarter Oct. 2, 2004.  Navy totaled 521 rushing yards and had eight ground scores. In this year’s four non-conference games (VT, UNC, NCSU, Navy), ECU surrendered 1,187 rushing yards and 17 ground scores (296.8 rypg/4.2 rushing touchdowns per game).  The Midshipmen’s 596 total yards were the fifth most ever recorded by an opponent in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.  The 521 ground yards by the Midshipmen are the most by an opponent in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium history and the second most ever recorded against the Pirates, 15 fewer than West Virginia recorded Sept. 28, 2002.  East Carolina scored its 41st offensive touchdown of the season today. In 2009, the Pirates totaled 39 offensive touchdowns. ECU last reached 40 or more offensive TDs in a season in 2007, when it had 50.  The Pirates’ 413 passing yards were the fifth most in program history and the third-highest total by ECU in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.  East Carolina’s 567 total yards were the sixth most by the Pirates’ in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium history.  In five home games this season, the Pirates have scored 205 points, an average of 41.0 per game. A year ago, ECU averaged 28.6 points per home tilt.  With Navy’s first-quarter touchdown, it became the first opponent to score first in Greenville this season. It was also the second-straight game in which the Pirates allowed a touchdown on the opponents’ opening drive.  Navy’s in the second quarter was the first ECU had forced since the fourth quarter of the Marshall game.  After not losing a fumble in two-straight games, the Pirates lost fumbles on three consecutive possessions to open the third quarter and four total during the quarter.  The Pirates committed five penalties for 50 yards today after being flagged just twice for 15 yards last week at UCF. Entering the contest with the Knights, East Carolina was averaging 9.1 penalties for 81.6 yards per game.  Dominique Davis’ first-quarter touchdown pass extended ECU’s streak to 11-straight games with a scoring pass.  With today’s five passing touchdowns, the Pirates have 27 aerial scores this season, their most since recording 27 in 1992.  East Carolina continued its redzone success, converting five-of-six opportunities. The Pirates are now 37-of-40 inside the opponents’ 20-yard line this season. ECU entered the game ranked fourth in the country in redzone efficiency (94.1%), trailing only Memphis (100%/12-of-12), Oklahoma State (97.0%/35-of-36) and Illinois (97.0%/29-of-30).  The Pirates recorded 250+ passing yards (413) and lost for the fourth time in the last 15 games when surpassing 250 aerial yards (only other losses occurred this season at Virginia Tech, North Carolina and UCF).  ECU also had its 11-game home winning streak snapped when throwing for 250 yards or more.  Their four fourth-down conversions gave the Pirates’ 15 successful fourth-down attempts this season. In all of 2009, the Pirates totaled seven fourth-down conversions.  The 64-yard touchdown rush by Navy’s Alexander Teich was the longest surrendered by the Pirates this season and the longest by an opponent since Virginia’s Cedric Peerman broke off a 79-yard run Oct. 11, 2008.  The East Carolina defense forced one turnover to bring its total to 10 in the last four games after netting only one takeaway in the previous three tilts.  By not recording a sack, the Pirates extended their string to four-straight games without a quarterback drop, the longest for the program since going empty the final four games of the 2004 campaign.  With its first-quarter touchdown, ECU extended its streak to a school-record 164 games without suffering a shutout.
