RHODESIA AND NYASALAND TARIFF Australia/Rhodesia and Nyasaland Trade Agreement Entry into Force

In documents L/1009 of 26 and L/1038 of 15 the Governments of Australia and of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland respectively notified the adjustments of preferences which they proposed to introduce in the Australia/Phodesia and Nyasaland Trade Agreement of 30 in accordance with the provisions of the Decision of 3 (BISD, Fourth Supplement, page 17), as amended by the Decisions of 20 November 1958 (BISD, Seventh Supplement, page 40) and of 29 (L/1012, page 12) These notifications were submitted. pursant to the first proviso to the Decision of 3 December 1955 which requires that the CONTRACTINGPARTIESshall be notified not less than sixty days before any such adjustment is made effective and which furthermore provides that the contracting party proposing to make the adjustment shall consult with any contracting party which claims to be substantially affected by such adjustment with a view to reaching a mutually satisfactory solution of the matter. In the case of both notifications referred to above,the Executive- Secretary has not been informed of the wish of any contracting party to enter such consultations. By letter dated 21 , the Government of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland has transmitted to the secretariat the text of the new Trade Agreement between the Federation and Australia which shows that the Agreement was brought, into operation on 40 November 1959.
