El NHC actualiza información sobre el recorrido del Huracán Lorenzo
“El huracán Lorenzo se extiende por el borde occidental de las Azores, derribando árboles y trayendo corrientes de agua que amenazan la vida con vientos de hasta 90 mph.
Las autoridades locales cerraron carreteras, escuelas y servicios públicos que no son de emergencia el miércoles cuando el huracán de categoría 1 llegó al archipiélago.
También dejó sin electricidad a aquellos en la isla de Flores más afectada, donde el servicio meteorológico de Portugal predijo que las olas podrían alcanzar hasta 25 metros.
"Este podría ser el [huracán] más fuerte en los últimos 20 años", dijo Carlos Neves, jefe de protección civil de las Azores.
El huracán Lorenzo se debilitará a una tormenta extratropical después de golpear Azores, antes de que se mueva hacia el norte en su trayectoria hacia Irlanda y el Reino Unido al final de la semana.
Dan Suri, el meteorólogo jefe de la Oficina Meteorológica del Reino Unido, dijo que "el clima húmedo y muy ventoso" golpearía las partes occidentales del Reino Unido desde el jueves después de traer "los vientos más fuertes" al oeste de Irlanda. The NHC reports on Hurricane Lorenzo
“Hurricane Lorenzo is sweeping along the western edge of the Azores, having knocked down trees and brought possibly life-threatening water currents with winds of up to 90mph.
Local authorities closed roads, schools and non-emergency public services on Wednesday as the Category 1 hurricane reached the archipelago.
It also knocked out power for those on the worst-affected island of Flores, where Portugal's metereological service predicted waves could reach up to 25 metres. "This might be the strongest [hurricane] in the last 20 years," Carlos Neves, head of the Azores' civil protection, said.
Hurricane Lorenzo is set to weaken to an extratropical storm after hitting Azores, before it moves north on its trajectory toward Ireland and the UK at the end of the week. Dan Suri, the chief meteorologist at the UK's Met Office, said "wet and very windy weather" would hit western parts of the UK from Thursday after bringing "the strongest winds" to western Ireland.
It comes "with a risk of coastal gales developing in Northern Ireland and western Scotland on Thursday and Wales and south-west England on Friday," he added.”
