EXPLANATiON OF TilE COMJIJUT ROLL.

—4-4•’~

The Conduct Roll is compiled from a record of all the irregularities andviolations of the Code of Discipline, established for the government of the Cadets, for the year ending 15th June annually. The various prohibitions andrequirements in the system of discipline enjoined by this Code, are divided into seven grades, of nearly the same degree of offence in a moral and military point of view: andto each degree of offence a numberis attached ofthe demerit to be recorded for violations thereof. The demerit to be recorded for an offence of each of theseseven grades is as fol- lows

For offences of the 1~tgrade, 10 demerit. 8 3d “ 5 “ “ “ 4th “ 4 “ “ 5th “ 3 “ “ 6th “ 2 7th “ 1 For example An absence from rdveillé roll call, is 3 demerit. Introducingspirituous liquors into barracks, is 8 demerit. Disobedience of the orders of amilitary superior, is 8 demerit.

For eachyear (after thefirst) that a Cadet has been a member of the Institution, his offencesare made to count more, by adding to the numbers expressing the de- gree of demerit for each offence, one-sixth for his second, one-third for his third, and one-halffor his fourth year. Onthe 15th ofJune annually, the offences recorded against each Cadet, or rather the numbersexpressive of theirdemerit, are summed up, and the sum thus obtain- ed is thatfound in the column of “Demerit,” in the annexedConduci Roll. When any Cadet has a number expressing his demerit on Ihe General Conduct Roll greater than 200 for the year, such Cadet is declared deficient in conduct, and recommended by the Academic Board to the War Department for discharge. 19 CONDUCT ROLL—1851.
