Abstract Pupae of 1 1 genera of Arctiinae in Arctiidae from Japan are described. This subfennily is divided inte two tribes, Arctiini and Spilosomini, nnd the fomier is constituted i'rom two groups arid the lattcrfrom three groups based un the pupa] characters. The pupae of some genera of the Spitarctia group excepting Chionarctia are indistinguishable, and some gencra are tentatively corn- bLned with thc Lem},ra in this paper.

Key words Arctlidae. Arctiinae, pupa, classificution, descripLion, Japan.
