D. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT – Mr. David M. Danhoff, Superintendent We had a great board meeting with our fifth and sixth grade students giving a presentation on reading strategies and how to improve their reading comprehension. A special thanks to Mrs. Benita Bintz and Mrs. Valerie Linkey for orchestrating this presentation.

We discussed the situation that our elementary teachers are encountering with having to obtain a reading endorsement. This is a major hurdle for most of our teachers because of the cost and the Lakota Local Schools are working hard to help offset those costs. Again, this is an unfunded mandate from the state and we are doing what we can to meet the mandate and make it affordable for our teachers.

The Sandusky River League is reviewing options to help enhance the opportunities for our athletes through creative scheduling with the TAAC. We may eventually merge with the TAAC and have two separate divisions but we are looking at what is best for all concerned. We had a major set-back when Margaretta announced its decision to remain in the Sandusky Bay Conference. This decision affected other schools who were contemplating making the move to our new league and that is why we must re-visit our talks with the TAAC (Toledo Area Athletic Conference). Overall, everything will turn out for the best and we will have a new home for our athletes.

I want to thank our staff of teachers and support personnel for all you do in making this a great place for young people. I sincerely appreciate all that you do and we are making progress academically. The high school staff needs to be commended as they were chosen as a School of Promise by the State Department of Education for the gains they have made academically. Congratulations to our high school staff for a job well done!
