To: Community Development and Recreation Committee Members Re: Toronto Fire Services response metrics data for stations 213 and 215

Recommendation:

The Community Development and Recreation Committee request the and General Manager, Toronto Fire Services to:

1. Report to the June 7, 2017 Community Development and Recreation Committee meeting with information on service levels for Fire Stations 213 and 215, including the response times and metrics data from 2013 onwards.

2. Include additional response metrics in the Toronto Fire Services Annual Report to enhance ongoing efforts for transparency in reporting emergency response times.

In 2014 Toronto City Council through the budget process reduced fire trucks at 213 located at 7 Lapsley Road and Fire Station 215 located at 538 Lawrence Avenue East. For the purposes of providing residents in eastern Scarborough with the statistics to inform them if Toronto Fire Services decision to reduce the trucks was appropriate the data on the response times in the community needs to be publically released.

Providing a report on service levels one year after modifications are implemented to fire stations specifically where fire trucks are reduced is necessary as communities have the right to be assured that their emergency service levels have not declined. Data on response times for geographic areas is included in the Toronto Fire Services annual report however the data per fire station is not included. This information is useful specifically for fire stations where fire trucks have been downsized as residents will be able to view relevant statistics to determine along with the City if the modifications to the emergency services in their community are meeting the required benchmarks.

I look forward to your support in this matter.

Sincerely,

Councillor Paul Ainslie City of Toronto Scarborough East Ward 43
