A school can attain this acheivement by being in the top 5% in Achievement or Growth for the two prior school years or made the greatest gains in achievement in the All Students Group. Mifflinburg Area Intermediate School will be honored at the 2020 Title I Improving Schools’ Performance Conference as a 2019-2020 Distinguished Title I School! Try this delicious snack on Super Bowl Sunday! Crispy Baked Wontons TOTAL TIME: Prep: 30 min. Bake: 10 min. YIELD: about 4 dozen. Ingredients

• 1/2-pound ground pork • 1/2-pound extra-lean ground turkey • 1 small onion, chopped • 1 can (8 ounces) sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped • 1/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce • 1/4 cup egg substitute • 1-1/2 teaspoons ground ginger • 1 package (12 ounces) wonton wrappers • Cooking spray • Sweet-and-sour sauce, optional

Directions

• 1. In a large skillet, cook the pork, turkey and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in the water chestnuts, soy sauce, egg substitute and ginger. • 2. Position a wonton wrapper with one point toward you. (Keep remaining wrappers covered with a damp paper towel until ready to use.) Place 2 heaping teaspoons of filling in the center of wrapper. Fold bottom corner over filling; fold sides toward center over filling. Roll toward the remaining point. Moisten top corner with water; press to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling. • 3. Place on baking sheets coated with cooking spray; lightly coat wontons with additional cooking spray. • 4. Bake at 400° for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown, turning once. Serve warm, with sweet-and-sour sauce if desired. Freeze option: Freeze cooled baked wontons in a freezer container, separating layers with waxed paper. To use, reheat on a baking sheet in a preheated 400° oven until crisp and heated through.

MIFFLINBURG TO RECEIVE $35,000.00 PA Congratulations to Angela SMART TARGETED GRANT TO GROW Spotts for being selected as the COMPUTER SCIENCE AND STEM PROGRAMS recipient of the February 2020 The Mifflinburg Area School District’s application was chosen as one of 163 school districts in the Commonwealth to receive this Young American Award from STEM-focused grant which will allow expansion of our District’s STEM- SUN Area Technical Institute! based program. Superintendent Lichtel indicated that, “We’re pursuing three STEM-based initiatives in our District for students K through 8.” The Young American Program He added, “Some of our teachers will receive some training and recognizes outstanding materials and prepare some new lessons in robotics, coding and drones. It’s pretty exciting!” students for their academic Mr. Lichtel indicated that the funding will not only add to the successes and participation District’s current curriculum, but will also add to the future technology offered to students within the District. Miff Tops Selinsgrove on the Court, 60-49 Isaiah Valentine led the team with a game high of 22 points helping the Wildcats take the victory over Selinsgrove, 60-49. Also scoring in this game were the following: Dylan Doebler (12 points), Dante Colon (7 points), Cannon Griffith (10 points) and Jake Young (9 points). Great job guys! The Junior Varsity Team was also victorious over Selinsgrove with a score of 39-37. Lane Yoder was the highest scorer with a total of 11 points for the Wildcats.
