Shri G. Sarvanan, Regional Director NPC Chandigarh told that National Productivity Council is mission oriented organization to promote the cause of productivity in all sectors of the Indian economy, which is established as autonomous, multipartite, non-profit organization by the Ministry of Industry, Govt. of India in 1958. we are quickly running out of natural resources and space. It's time to adopt Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in daily life. Then practice what you preach: don't buy things you don't need or items that come in wasteful packaging or that cannot be recycled. Reuse and recycle whatever you can. He continued that reducing the amount of waste you produce is the best way to help the environment. There are lots of ways to do this such as don't have a lot of packaging, prefer carpooling with friends, Start a compost bin, take print out only if is unavoidable what you need, Save energy by turning off lights that you are not using, Save water by turning off the faucet while you brush your teeth, avoid plastic bag and keep for reuse if being purchased, use paper on both sides, use plastic bottles for pen stand if possible.

Shri Rajesh Katoch Deputy Director NPC Chandigarh started with the concept of reuse. He told that concept behind reuse, is that you should reuse items as much as possible before replacing them. For example, it generally makes more environmental sense to update your computer rather than get rid of it and buy a new one. However, if you do replace your computer, you should ensure that it, or its components, is reused. The concept behind the Recycle is that you should ensure that items or their components are put to some new purpose as much as possible. If your computer is not fit for reuse as is, you can donate it to one of several organizations, which will refurbish it or recycle its components. After that Slogan Competition was conducted for the staffs of HUDCO Regional Office Chandigarh and the prize were distributed to the winners.

The industries can improve their performance, competitiveness and the productivity if could work out and adopt the Reduce, Recycle and Reuse concept in production activities. He told that we cannot stop waste production entirely, but everyone can make a significant contribution towards the minimum waste generation. Reducing waste also reduces litter. Remember, everything dropped can find its way to beaches, roads, waterways, bush land and parks through the storm water system. He also explained about the various few common techniques through which Industries can minimize their waste and could be a profit making organization. Reducing waste also means saving resources. Energy Audits can give information on potential energy consumption areas in the industries or by using high-efficiency machines, equipment, LED lights, Star rated Appliances etc. Large amounts of water can be saved at industries by fixing leaking taps, using dual-flush toilets, Installation of STP, ETP, Rain water Harvesting, floor washing and with recycled water etc. He also stressed on ZED (Zero Defect Zero Effect) Scheme. He told that ZED Scheme is an integrated and holistic certification system that will account for quality, productivity, energy efficiency, pollution mitigation, financial status, human resource and technological depth including design and IPR in both products and processes.

Sh S.P. Singh, Deputy Director, NPC Chandgarh told that Recycling waste materials is better than landfilling them, but the best option is to not generate them at all. Reduce waste by buying in bulk, using reusable shopping bags and water bottles, and tossing out less food. Reuse clothing and other unwanted items by donating them to community organizations like homeless shelters, thrift stores, and animal shelters. And rethink what you typically throw out—like grass clippings, which can be left on your lawn to condition and fertilize the soil. Cutting down on waste could even save you money, since a growing number of communities have "pay as you throw" programs that charge a waste collection fee based on the size of your garbage can.
