Shopping: A society that has lived through over 30 years of conflict develops certain habits of life that linger after the conflict is over. So, as a legacy of the Troubles and related curfews, shops in the city centre still close at 6PM (though pubs and restaurants remain open later). Thursday night is the exception with most shops in the city centre open until 9PM. The newest upscale shopping centre is Victoria Square, just northeast of city hall. If you’re in town on the weekend (Friday-Sunday), St. George’s Market is another great shopping option.
