The races this year will take place from 27th to 29th of July in Bratislava and from 3rd to 5th of August in Vienna. Apart from medals in the individual competitions there will be prize money awarded to the overall Danube Cup winners. Strengthened by the success of the 2014 European Canoe Slalom Championships and the Wildwater Sprint World Championships 2015, the Austrian Canoe Federation together with the Vienna Watersports Arena powered by Wien Energie, want to establish themselves as a reliable host for future big events. The modern performance centre of the Austrian Canoe Federation Is located on the so called “Donauinsel”, a long and narrow island in central Vienna next to the Danube. To most visitors, the island is known as a recreational area with bars, restaurants, nightclubs and many sports opportunities. Recently Vienna has been rated for the ninth year in a row as the world’s most “liveable” city and we warmly welcome the athletes and their teams to our beautiful city. Good luck for the races and best regards, Herbert Preisl, President GENERAL INFORMATION VIENNA Recently, Vienna has been voted most liveable city for the ninth time in a row and there are many reasons for that. Its urban atmosphere, combined with large recreational areas and a lively cultural landscape as well as the hospitability of the locals, this all contributes to the positive image of the beautiful city on the Danube river. Visitors of Vienna get to experience the high culture of the centrepiece of the old Habsburg monarchy, the glitter of the Vienna ball culture, the lively urban sphere of young professionals making the city their playground and the Viennese special zest for life, which you can find in the “Heurigen” (traditional wine cellar bars) on the outskirts of the town. Of course, Vienna has been making its way in the sphere of sports events as well. The hosting of the UEFA EURO 2008 and the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships 2017 were great successes. The Vienna City Marathon is Austria´s largest running competition and attracted about 40,000 runners from 125 nations in 2017. Also the 2014 European Canoe Slalom Championships and the Wildwater Sprint World Championships 2015 at the Vienna Watersports Arena were great successes for the Austrian canoeing community. All of these events are not only well-organized and successes in terms of revenue but also made their impact on the image of Vienna as a sport city. VENUE The Vienna Watersports Arena powered by Wien Energie is the first artificial slalom course in Austria, opened August 2013. The High Performance Centre of the Austrian Canoe Federation is a modern and economically efficient sport venue with a growing number of visitors each year. Most importantly, it is a perfect training spot for Austria’s top athletes and a course with interesting characteristics.
