It is known to have an abundant and very rich amount of knowledge found in the Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, and as such, this religion has tremendously contributed not only to Muslim societies but also to the West. One aspect of this contribution explicated in this thesis is its contribution to the field of Conflict Resolution. The primary purpose of this study is to unearth the tradition of peace and conflict resolution that comes out of the religion of Islam, which is unknown to many Muslims today. In this study, existing literature in the field is examined, and a qualitative exploration is carried out, in order to formulate a better understanding of the dynamics of the Qur’an, hadith and other documents of Islam, as they relate to peace and conflict resolution. Utilizing a mixed methods approach, data collected for this study came from two sources: the existing literature regarding Islam and conflict resolution and the participants (Imams and religious scholars of Islam) interviewed through a questionnaire. To begin with, the thesis introduces the fundamentals of Islam and major concepts of the faith. It proceeds with Qur’anic and hadith injunctions on peace and conflict, and how those divine revelations as believed by Muslims, were applied by Prophet Muhammad and his early followers. This work is concluded with the opinions and interpretations of the scholars regarding the original question of this study and the matters discussed in the literature review. The thesis deals with the teachings of the Qur’an and only investigates and analyzes historical events from the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad and the early caliphate of Islam. In the process, to further explore the concept of conflict resolution in i Islam, interpretations of Muslim scholars and imams are included in this document review of the sacred texts of Islam. Some questions addressed in this research are, how might this knowledge be valuable to Muslims today in these times of great turmoil involving the Muslim world after September 11? Where do the primary sources of Islam, the Quran and the hadith, stand as far as peace and conflict are concerned? And most importantly, what does Islam have to teach about conflict resolution? ii Dedication This thesis is dedicated to my beloved parents who brighten my life every time I speak with them while I am away from them during my studies. In his own home-town in the district of Isyut he was considered by the people to be a holy personality having miraculous powers. He was a follower of the Shadhali Tariqa (Sufi Order) and a graduate of Al Azhar, the world’s oldest university and Sunni Islam’s foremost seat of learning. The following work of his is most definitely a most precious work and the study of it and its contents a must for all lovers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).

    Beginners guides to the religions and beliefs Islam Teachers need subject knowledge to teach RE well. There is no substitute for this, and it is part of our professional responsibility. Any RE subject leader might use this set of support materials to help class teachers who are not expert in a religion they are going to teach. The guides to each religion here are very brief – just four or five pages usually, and carefully focused on what a teacher need to be reminded about. They are in danger of being trite or superficial, but perhaps are better than nothing. There is on every religion a wide introductory literature, and all teachers of RE will do their work better if they improve their knowledge by wider reading than is offered here. But perhaps it is worth giving these starting points to busy teachers. Note that no primary teacher needs to know about 6 religions – if you teach one year group, then two or three religions will be part of the syllabus for that year. In general terms, the following guidance points apply to teaching about any religion: 1. Respect. Speak with respect about the faith: any religion with tens of millions of followers is being studied because the people within the faith deserve our respect. 2. Diversity. Talk about ‘some / many /most’ believers, but not about ‘All believers’. Diversity is part of every religion. 3. Neutrality. Leave ‘insider language’ to insiders. A Sikh visitor can say ‘We believe...’ but teachers will do best to say ‘Many Sikhs believe’ or ‘many Christians believe...’ 4.

    The Message of the Majestic Quran Summary of Juz 22 Surat al-Ahzab continued Background to the Battle of the Trench heard about the Makkan plan, he called a war council to discuss the ﷺ When the Prophet impending danger. Salman, the Persian, suggested digging a trench between the long stretches of fortress-like houses on the outskirts of the city, whilst in the northwest, there were high rocks that were difficult to cross. So, a trench five meters wide, five meters deep, and seven kilometres long was dug in three weeks. When the army of Confederates reached the outskirts of Madinah, they were baffled to see the trench. They camped outside the city near Uhud and laid siege. The only way to enter the city was if the Jews of Banu Qurayda were to attack from the inside. So, the Quraysh and the Jews of Banu Nadhir put together a strategy to win over Banu Qurayda and eventually a pact was agreed. But the plan went horribly wrong, and the confederates received no help from them. The siege was difficult to maintain, and the winter nights were long and bitterly cold. A violent sandstorm blew the tents. The camels and the horses of the Makkan forces ran wild. After three weeks, they fled. This Divine Intervention saved the Muslims. This was a testing time for the Muslims. It required wise and brave leadership and committed followers. A large part of the Surah deals with the personal life and wonderful and his relationships with the disciples and his family. He is ,ﷺ character of the Prophet addressed on six occasions with the refrain “O Prophet!’ to bolster his morale, reassuring him of his unique position in Allah's sight, and encouraging him to lead confidently.

Therefore, the assessment of users’ opinion about this type of decoration needs to be investigated. This paper aims to evaluate the perception of two groups of mosque users on the calligraphic woodcarving ornamentations from two regions, namely the East Coast and Southwest of Peninsula Malaysia.

    The Potential for Peacebuilding in Islam Toward an Islamic Concept of Peace Hisham Soliman Hisham Soliman is a research assistant at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame, and a member of the faculty of Cairo University Faculty of Economics and Political Science. After some general thoughts about the relationship between religion, conflict, and peace, the focus of this papers narrows to the relationship between Islam and peacebuilding in particular. Foundations for this relationship are laid upon a discussion of the misinterpreted concept of jihad. Islamic values and mechanisms are highlighted to further support an argument for an Islamic concept of peace; of particular importance are the capacities in Islam for nonviolence, the concept of justice in Islam, motivations for humanitarian work in Islam and the duty to work for peace. Excerpts from the sacred texts in Islam as well as examples of practical experiences are used to illustrate and support the argument. The article concludes with thoughts about the absence of most of these practices from the lived reality of Muslim societies. In general, Islam has been at the center of socio-political debates following the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001. A flurry of research, mostly by non-Muslims, has been conducted since then to explore Islam and whether a call for violence is central to this faith. Some Muslim scholars have exerted parallel efforts as well. Most of the latter, however, were primarily apologetic in tone, adopting a defensive posture to counter the perceived attack on their religious identity in the wake of these events.

    Jihad and Terrorism: A Comparative Study Zahid Shah∗ Abstract Man has always longed for peace: war per se has never been his cherished ideal. Yet wars have always been an undeniable fact of life. Notwithstanding the human desire for peace, at times wars do become indispensable. However, opinions differ as to when wars could be justified on moral grounds and when they are just a matter of sheer transgression. In tune with its claim to universality, both in terms of time and space, Islam has propounded its own everlasting concept of war, based on Divine wisdom and consideration of human welfare. Unfortunately, however, over a period of time, Islam’s position on war has been shrouded in confusion and misguided misinterpretations. To make matters worse, more often than not, Jihad has come to be equated with terrorism something which runs counter to the spirit & substance of Islam. This has more to do with the actions of a few misguided religious zealots than the intellectual handiwork of even fewer iconoclastic elements. Nevertheless, decidedly an overwhelming majority of Muslims, not only the intelligentsia but also the common believers, are and have always been averse to waging wars beyond the strict limitations prescribed in Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). Although a lot has been written on Jihad, scarcely anything of substance is available in terms of a comparative study of Jihad and terrorism in today’s context. Much of the literature available on the subject of jihad has limitations of one kind or another. Therefore this research article attempts to offer a comparative analysis of Jihad and terrorism based on authentic sources.

There are four men mentioned in the Quran about whom Muslim scholars are uncertain whether they were prophets or not: Dhul-Qarnain (18:83), Luqman (Chapter 31), Uzair (9:30), and Tubba (44:37, 50:14). 1. Aadam or Adam is the first prophet in Islam. He is also the first human being according to traditional Islamic belief. Adam is mentioned in 25 verses and 25 times in the Quran.
