Childhood obesity is of significant concern because it is associated with childhood morbidity, adverse social outcomes and may be associated with life-long implications. In recent years, there has been an increased interest in understanding the possible role of local food environment in shaping individual's behavior in ways that may encourage food consumption and affect weight status. This study examines whether fast food availability at the residential neighborhood may explain children's risk for obesity. Data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing study, a population-based panel data of urban children and their families, were linked to locations of fast food outlets. Using both cross-sectional and longitudinal analytic techniques and numerous robustness checks, I find no discernible effect of exposure to fast food at the residential neighborhood on children's weight. Policies designed to reduce accessibility to fast food in children's residential neighborhood may not be effective in the effort to fight the childhood obesity epidemic. Oakridge’s intention is to provide a quiet and clean place for ministers and their families to come relax and refresh. We will do our best to give you comfortable lodging, a warm welcome, and enough space to clear your head and seek renewed vision for your local ministry. We hope you find your stay to be restful and quiet, and will provide you with minimal recreational activities and interaction so that you can be alone with our Lord, His Word and nature. How much does it cost? If you are a senior minister at your church, Oakridge is blessed to be able to offer you this getaway for free (up to two nights lodging). If you are a minister at your local church, but not the senior pastor, we are able to offer lodging at 50% discount. This means that rental fees for your stay will be $30 for the getaway cabin, and $50 for the getaway motel. Other expenses might include additional nights’ lodging, meals provided at the camp dining hall, or some camp activities. Where will I stay? We currently have two lodging options for our Minister’s Getaway offer. The first is our getaway cabin, which has one double bed, sleeping 1-2 people. The second is our getaway motel, which has 2 double beds and 2 hide-a-beds, sleeping up to 8 people. Families with more members than this can inquire about other lodging options. Most of these studies have indicated the role of marketing to be critical in the sustainability of the small firms. In a recent study (Huang and Brown, 1999), the problems of sales and marketing were reported as important by 40 percent of the firms surveyed while other important factors reported were human resources (15 percent), general management (14 percent) and production / operations (9 percent) \ In India, a survey by the All India Management Association pointed out that among 872 SSI (Small Scale Industry) units in manufacturing, growth fell by 8.1 percent in 1998-2002. One of the main reasons cited by the units for not being able to do well was problems related to marketing (70 percent) (Jain, 2003).
