AN OPEN MESSAGE TO THE SMJFL COMMUNITY Offensive & abusive behaviour Last week the SMJFL Board and Administration held our mid-year President’s Forum at South Melbourne JFC new clubrooms. One of the key issues discussed at length was the occurrence of offensive and abusive behaviour in towards our players and umpires in our league from parents, supporters and club officials this season. The impact this is having on our players and umpires is profound, with a number of our players indicating an unwillingness to play football or umpire next season. Our league administration is dealing with an increase number of reports and investigations which is having a significant impact our resources and ability to run our league in a professional and timely manner, let alone the impact within our clubs and their committees. The SMJFL will never have enough staff resources to cover approximately 185 games at 45-55 venues we play on each weekend, so we need the Clubs to effectively manage their own spectators, officials own child, as opposed to offensive and abusive behaviour. and players. As part of NAB’s support of the SMJFL, we are excited to announce for the 2013 season individual clubs can benefit when club members (parents, coaches, committee members, etc.) take out a new home loan with NAB. For every successful drawn down loan referred to NAB via one of the clubs, NAB will give back to the individual club. For example, a home loan of $375,000 taken out with NAB would see the corresponding club receive $1,500. As an additional bonus, the first 10 customers who refinance their existing home loan from another bank to NAB during the 2013 season will receive a full-size genuine NAB Sherrin Football valued at $100. This is a fantastic opportunity and further demonstrates NAB’s support of grass roots football by giving back to local NAB Lightning Carnivals communities. For further details, please speak to your Partner and SMJFL club’s president or alternatively call Scott Harty, NAB Umpiring Partner Regional Executive, on 0437 366 164.
