Florida State University Department of Athletics Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manual STATEMENT OF APPROVAL The Florida State University Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manual was developed by the staff athletic trainers while in collaboration with the team physicians. The primary team physicians have carefully reviewed and approved the manual in its entirety. Signed review and approval of the manual by each primary team physician shall be kept on file with the Director of Sports Medicine. ___________________________ ___________________________ ______________ (Print Name- Dr. Kris Stowers) (Signature) (Date) ___________________________ ___________________________ ______________ (Print Name- Dr. William Thompson) (Signature) (Date) 4 Florida State University Department of Athletics Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manual SCOPE OF PRACTICE "Athletic training" means the form of health care that includes the practice of preventing, recognizing, assessing, managing, treating, disposing of, and reconditioning athletic injuries under the direction of a physician licensed in this state or another qualified, licensed health professional who is authorized to refer for health care services within the scope of the person's license. The Florida State University Sports Medicine Staff shall be licensed under the State of Florida Department of Health Division of Medical Quality Service. With this license, all staff athletic trainers shall practice under the direction of a Florida licensed team physician. 5 Florida State University Department of Athletics Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manual MISSION STATEMENT The Florida State University Sports Medicine Department strives to provide the intercollegiate student-athletes with the utmost quality health care. In doing so, the Sports Medicine staff is devoted to the care, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses while maximizing athletic performance. The Sports Medicine Department is dedicated to providing the FSU student-athletes with the latest in sports medicine research and technology, and to create an environment that promotes the total wellness of the student, the athlete, and the person. 6 Florida State University Department of Athletics Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manual ADMINISTRATIVE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 7 Florida State University Department of Athletics Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manual SPORTS MEDICINE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL The Athletic Training Staff consists of a Director of Sports Medicine, three associate directors of sports medicine, seven assistant athletic trainers, one athletic insurance coordinator, eight graduate assistant athletic trainers, and one intern athletic trainer. All athletic training staff members are certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and licensed by the State of Florida.     6C2R-2.007 Use of Campus Facilities. (1) Introduction. The Florida State University is a public institution. Consequently, there exists a need to specifyThis regulation sets forth the guidelines for use of University facilities for events other than the normal University functions of teaching, research, service and administration. Use of campus facilities is decided through the use of campus committees administered by various University units; however, final authority for use of all campus facilities lies with the President or designee. The University may extend the use of specified space and facilities to members of the University community or to the general public subject to the provisions outlined within this regulation.     FSU-2.007 Use of University Lands and Facilities. (1) Introduction. The Florida State University is a public institution. This regulation sets forth the guidelines for use of University facilities for events other than the normal University functions of teaching, research, service and administration. Use of campus facilities is administered by various University units; however, final authority for use of all campus facilities lies with the President or designee. (2) Scope. University space, including University lands and facilities, will be used first for the official and regular purposes and functions of the University. The University may extend the use of specified space to members of the University community or to the general public subject to the provisions outlined within this regulation. This regulation shall be interpreted and implemented in a manner consistent with the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, Art. I of the State Constitution, and the Campus Free Expression Act, section 1004.097, F.S. Nothing in this regulation is intended to or shall be used to prohibit free expression based on viewpoint, or to prohibit spontaneous expressive activity in outdoor areas of campus subject to this regulation and other reasonable time, place, and manner restrictions. (3) Definitions.
