The International Conference on Yoga for Heart care was organized at Mysuru. The 4th edition of India International Cherry Blossom Festival, 2019 was celebrated in Shillong, Meghalaya. o This year the Republic of Korea was the partner country in the festival. NATIONAL National Agro Chemical Congress The National Agro Chemical Congress was conducted in New Delhi. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare hosted the event. It was the first of its kind. It is to be conducted once in three years. The theme was - Country’s Status on various fronts of Agro chemicals. Bharatiya Poshan Krishi Kosh It was launched by Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani along with Bill Gates in New Delhi. The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has partnered with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the Bharatiya Poshan Krishi Kosh project. It is a repository of diverse crops across 128 agro-climatic zones to help enable better nutritional outcomes. The Kosh aims to reduce malnutrition among women and children across the country, through a multi-sectoral results-based framework, including agriculture. In most cases, malnutrition is the cause of death of children below the age of five years. Cyclone Bulbul The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert in Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha over Cyclone Bulbul in the Bay of Bengal.

    NATIONAL AFFAIRS ❖ Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has declared ancient Buddhist site in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh known as Chaukhandi Stupa as "protected area of national importance”. ✓ It is said to be originally a terraced temple constructed during the Gupta period between 4th to 6th century. Presently, this stupa is high earthen mound covered with brickwork edifice topped by octagonal tower. ✓ ASI: Founded: 1861, Headquarter: New Delhi. ❖ Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared National People’s Party led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma as National Party. With this, NPP became 8th national party in India. ✓ Before NPP’s elevation, India had seven national parties (Trinamool Congress led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was 7th party to get this status in September 2016). This also made NPP first political party from the north- eastern region to get national party status. ✓ the eighth national party in the country among All India Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), BSP, CPI, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress (INC) and NCP parties. ❖ The National Green Tribunal has set up expert committee to probe whether there is need for further norms to restrict plastic packaging of food products. It was formed by bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel while hearing on petition filed by NGO Him Jagriti Uttaranchal Welfare Society seeking ban on the use of plastic bottle and multi- layered plastic packages and PET bottles. ✓ It is mandated to probe if more norms are needed to restrict use of Plastic Packaging. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will be the nodal agency for coordination.
