T THE recent annual assembly of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Rome, Mgr Jan Dumon, General Secretary of the Pontifical Mission Society—St Peter the Apostle said: A“Before being an organisation PMS is a mission- ary movement of solidarity within the whole Family-Church of God.” One of the ways that we in Scotland give expression to this solidarity is through support for MISSIO Scotland and support for missionary congregations. It is a blessing that we continue to have a num- ber of missionary congregations present in Scotland. Through the annual parish appeals parishioners have the opportunity to hear about the work of these congregations and are given the opportunity to offer support. One such congregation is the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FFM), they have two Communities in Glasgow. The sisters are com- mitted to live in international communities throughout the world especially in areas where Christ is least known and the Church least pres- ent. Their mission finds its source in today’s world with its many and diverse needs. Nawal Bakhos is a final professed Lebanese sister who after her final vows was sent to Senegal. She shares with us her first impressions —with enthusiasm, a refreshing outlook and a poetic sense—of the province, which is now hers and where she lives out her mission.
