Annwyl Rhienni (Dear Parent/Guardian),

Blwydden Newydd Dda - Happy New Year

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to those parents who I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting. My name is Mr. Ashley Bennett and the Governing Body appointed me as head teacher as of the 1st January. Prior to this, I had been working in a large primary school in north Wales.

Although I have only been here a week, I can already tell what a special and nurturing school this is. The children are an absolute delight and it has been lovely to hear their tales from the Christmas holidays. They have made a new head teacher feel very welcome.

As an educator, I am a firm believer in ensuring that the partnership between school and home is strong. As such, I welcome all parent/carers to come and have a conversation with myself at any time. Whilst I am in school for the majority of the time, should I not be able to see you immediately, please contact Mrs Davies and a time for a meeting will be made.

As you may be aware, the curriculum for Wales is changing and this offers exciting times for the future of education. As a school, we are committed to supporting each pupil on their learning journey whilst ensuring that they become ambitious, ethically informed, enterprising and creative individuals. Ysgol Sennybridge will work tirelessly to ensure that all pupils are happy and are making progress specific to them. The emphasis on the Welsh language will continue to be a strong element within the school.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, pupils and parents who have been friendly faces; especially when walking in to school in the morning. Special mention needs to be given to Mrs Watts who has left the school in a strong position. Thank you. I look forward to continuing to work with you all as to ensure that Ysgol Gynradd Pontsenni continues to develop and grow.

Staff Changes – Miss Colwell will be taking maternity leave from the 17th January. In her absence, we have now employed Mrs Louise Walker to work alongside Mr Price’s Class. Pob lwc Miss Colwell a croeso Mrs Walker.

Eisteddfod yr Urdd - Pupils will be preparing for round 1 of the Urdd Eisteddfod taking place on Friday 8th March here at Ysgol Pontsenni. Diolch yn fawr in advance to Mrs Gwyneth Williams for supporting the individuals and the group reciting. To enter the

Attendance / Punctuality - Presenoldeb / Prydlondeb Our whole school attendance is currently 95.18% and we would appreciate your support in supporting improving our attendance for the spring term. Please ensure any routine appointments are taken outside of the school day where possible and that your child arrives promptly for a 9.15 am start. Diolch yn fawr.

After School Clubs / Clybiau ar ôl Ysgol- School clubs will continue on Monday 13th January and will be reviewed after half term. Your child /children can be collected from the front of the school building at the end of the club. We appreciate your prompt collection. If your child is unable to attend their selected after school club, please inform us of any alternative arrangements.

School Breakfast Club/ Clwb Brecwast Ysgol - Breakfast Club takes place in the school Hall every morning from 7.45 – 9 am with a £2.50 charge per session only now payable via Parent Pay . Any enquiries please contact Mrs Mae Davies.

Swimming / Nofio- There will be no swimming this term for infants or juniors.
