PRESIDENTS REPORT

The LJFC Board would like to acknowledge the families that have been prompt in paying for their registration for the season – THANKS! We also thought our families would appreciate an explanation of where the registration costs go after signing up on SportsTG. We have two pricing structures at LJFC:

1. Early bird registrations offer a $10 discount and free socks before February 28. Juniors are $140 and Youth are $180

2. Post early bird, from March 1, there is no $10 discount and a $10 fee applies for the socks. Juniors are $160 and Youth are $200

3. There is an STJFL levy of $16 per player across all clubs, which covers the Competition Managers salary

LJFC Costings:

There is a cost difference between Juniors and Youths due to the Junior teams having volunteer umpires (no paid umpires) and generally only training once per week.

Our Youth teams train under lights (generally twice a week), pay for umpires and also each Youth team has access to an Exercise Physiologist (Clare Goss) fitness session once a fortnight as suggested by AFLTAS to all STJFL Clubs. LJFC are proud to have implemented this initiative.

Clarence Council manage the grounds we use (Geilston Bay no 2 and Anzac Park) and we pay an hourly fee for ground hire and an hourly fee for lighting. Ground hire is $31.36 per hour and lighting is $38.64 per hour. We also use Lindisfarne North Primary School, which is a little cheaper at $23.70 per hour.

Every player at LJFC gets a photo, we pay JLT public liability costs and each team pays STJFL a competition fee. Teams need balls, cones, equipment, first aid supplies need replenishing during the year and at the end of each season and players need a jumper to play in. As you can see, the costs quickly mount up.

Edition 3 – May 2019 1

The club makes a small margin on some merchandise, which we invest back into the club. Sponsorship income can add value, reward volunteers and be used to fund events and ideas that sit outside our core football business.

In season 2019, the Ticket to Play voucher system has been widely promoted and assists Health Care Card and Pension Card holders with a $100 voucher to offset the costs of registrations. While we accept our registrations are slightly more expensive than some clubs, we believe the initiatives we have implemented are only going to benefit our players into the future and strengthen our club.

Levelling the Playing Field:

The LJFC board are always on the lookout for opportunities and with the Tasmanian Government investing $10 million over two years to the Levelling the Playing Field Grants Program to upgrade sports facilities for girls and women, this presents a once in a generation opportunity for us. Grants are be provided for projects that develop or improve functional and inclusive facilities for female sport participants, including change rooms, lockers, toilets, shower facilities and amenities, and safety requirements to support access and use of change rooms and amenities.

As part of a collaborative partnership with Clarence Council, an application has been submitted for an upgraded facility at Anzac Park that will include broader community use for AFL and cricket. We should know by the end of June 2019.

2019 Under 14 – Trip

Last year the Under 13 boys team ventured On Friday, the crew ventured out to the off to Melbourne on a father-son trip to go Holden Centre (Home of Collingwood). It was and watch a few AFL games and tour some a real eye opening experience for all the boys AFL club facilities. As it was such an educational experience and a growth building trip for the boys the now Under 14 boys team decided to do it again this year. Thanks to some wonderful logistical organisational skills from our President (Andrew Moore) the boys were able to go and watch the Anzac Eve match between

Richmond and Melbourne on Wednesday Boys holding the 2010 Premiership Cup. evening. A few of the dads and sons thought to see how professional an AFL club is. FROM AROUND THE GROUNDS

Under 8 Boys Our Under 8 boys have started the season extremely well. We have seen great improvement from week to week with the boys now playing with great team work to ensure every player is involved in the game. They have adapted very well to all the rules involved and we look forward to seeing them all improve as the season progresses. Special thanks to all the parents that have helped out so far, it’s much appreciated. Daniel Willing Under 9 Boys (Blues) Following a tough opening round against very challenging opposition, the U9 Lindisfarne Blues team regrouped strongly and performed wonderfully well across the subsequent 3 weeks. The boys continue to adapt well to tackling and are showing admirable improvement each week in not only laying tackles, but in getting a kick or handball away whilst being tackled or evading them altogether with a nice sidestep or by ‘selling some candy’. The addition of 4 new players – Benson O’Brien, Oliver Brannam, Tom Splann and Xavier Houston have added to the depth and quality of the team with all four boys fitting in well and making very positive contributions across all games played to date. The Coaches of the U9 Blues has no doubt that the boys will continue to represent the LJFC very well over the remaining fixture with good quality team football played in a fair and sportsmanlike manner. Leigh Horne Under 9 Boys (Lightning) The boys are really starting to work together and play as a team with the new members starting to find their feet. With the focus being on forward momentum and linking up and finding team mates, the boys are starting to show some real skill. They set a target this week of 5 to 7 link up plays per quarter and they smashed it. It was really great to watch. Tackling is high on the agender being the first year they can do it, and the boys are loving it and picked it up extremely well. Many thanks to the parents who help out at training and on game day....it makes it a great environment for all the boys to be around. GO LIGHTNING!!!!! Fran Sullivan Under 10 Girls The Under 10 girls Lindisfarne footy team have played 3 games so far and have all fantastic time! The team are bonding well together, forming new friendships and improving every time they train or play. They are learning new techniques ready to use in their next game and taking on board coaching tips from Scot Murray which showed greatly in their last game. We are very proud of them and can’t wait to see them in action on the field again soon Sarah Gray and Scot Murray

Under 10 Boys (Lightning) It’s been a great start to the season for U10 Lightning. The team is really starting to gel together with great displays of teamwork and a good understanding of their team mates. We’ve been focusing on including a quick game style and fast ball movement by playing on and getting a quick handball away under pressure. We travel to Dodges Ferry this week which is sure to be a great game, particularly for all the Mum’s and Nan’s coming for Mother’s Day Jason Russell Under 11 Boys So far the start of the season has seen some great training sessions with good numbers and enthusiasm for the Under 11's. From the first few games the group are already displaying good team spirit no individuals - it's been an all in effort. Skill level is improving and training skills are starting to show in games with some great run and carry against a fast Clarence side last weekend. Looking forward to continued improvement from the boys over the season. Emily Wills Under 12 Girls The Under 12 Girls started the year with a great turn out, 19 girls to make up the team this year. Put in a great preseason getting ready for round one. Our first game was against Kingborough at Kingston, the Tigers had a win by 32 points but didn’t seem like that on the ground, the girls played well and there were some big improvements from last year. Next up we had Huonville at Home, we run away winners by 72 points in that one, and everyone had a good game and plenty of the ball. Third game was a bit of a no game against Clarence at Howrah, both teams battled hard, but with some disorganisation from the home team, we didn’t keep score. Our last game was against the South East Suns at Lindisfarne, the girls had another great victory running out winners by 60 points, plenty of ball touches by everyone and another great team effort by everyone. Very happy with the way the girls have started the year and hope we can continue to get some more good scores on the board. #GO THE PINK & BLUES Mark Anning Under 12 Boys The boys under 12 team has had a great start to the season, comfortably winning their first four games. The team has gained some new members this season-Jordan, Tahi, Seth, Lachie F and Riley and we welcomed back Ned and Judah. The boys are showing great commitment at each training session, developing new skills and the training tops (thanks to Systembuilt) look fantastic Bridget Jones

Under 13 Boys The boys have had a challenging start to the year with games against 3 quality teams resulting in losses. Attendance and effort at training has been great and each week they are improving. It is only a matter of time until the hard work that all of the boys have been putting in since the start of the pre-season starts paying off. Mathew Scott Under 14 Boys Our under 14 team have had a few changes this year with 6 new additions being added to the team list. We had a strong and solid preseason, however we still have plenty of work to be done to get the results we would like. To date, we have played 3 games and had a bye. We have unfortunately lost two games (North Hobart & Clarence) and won 1 (New Norfolk) which was a Friday night game under lights at ANZAC Park. The boys are persistently working hard and if they continue to do so the results will no doubt come. Rick Cobbing Under 15 Boys Boys are travelling along quite well at the moment, training hard and playing good footy, last 3 matches have given us two wins against Glenorchy and Claremont, last Sunday didn’t go our way with a loss against Clarence, we played well and had plenty of the footy just didn’t make the most of our opportunity’s, currently sitting 3rd on the ladder. Ryan Taylor Under 16 Girls After a very good preseason the girls were ready for a positive start to the season. Although the improvement from last season was obvious in all aspects of the game we were held scoreless in the first 2 rounds, but we were encouraged by the fact that a team who smashed us last year by over 100 points only scored 59 against us. Then came round 3 we have been working so hard and the girls bought the effort I have been asking for on the day to hold Claremont goalless and win by 1 goal, what a great feeling for them to sing the club song. Go the pink and blues. Thanks to the Sponsors of our new training tops, Fall Real Estate Lindisfarne (Katrina Arkley), and Minkies Hair and Beauty in Glenorchy (Tegan Darke). Mark Spong CONGRATULATIONS

To the following boys who have been selected in the under 12 State Squad.
