Mildred Hubble Fairuza Balk is one of the young girls at a prestigious witch The Worst Witch. She can't seem to do anything right and is picked on by classmates and teachers. The headmistress of the school, Miss Cackle Charlotte Raehas an evil twin sister Agatha who plans to destroy the school. In my opinion, any film where Tim Curry sings is a delight. Although I am not a fan of a lot of the horror Mr. Curry has created, he is perfect in the Worst Witch. Seeing this for the first time at the age of eight back on the Disney Channel inI was blown away with the story and the actors in the movie. Balk, only a child at the time was a wonderful actress before she hit the big screens. She would later go on to do the sequel to the Wizard of Oz as Dorothy. A lot of the cast members in this movie went on to do other notable movies including The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. Overall, a perfect Halloween movie for girls and boys. It's funny that Harry Potter has a lot of similar tones and scenes that are equal to the Worst Witch. Still a great movie almost 20 years later. Check it out! Looking for some great streaming picks? Mildred Hubble lives an ordinary life with her mum The Worst Witch, until the day that Maud Spellbody crashes her broomstick into their balcony and nothing is ever the same again. Maud introduces Mildred to Cackle's Academy - a school for young witches set high on a mountaintop. Under the watchful eye of friendly headmistress Miss Cackle and scary deputy Miss Hardbroom, Mildred begins her training, but no matter how hard she tries, her spells have a habit of going badly wrong, causing chaos. Will Mildred always be The Worst Witch.? Lets not dwell on the obvious comparison. This is not a rip off of that other witching school. This series is a lot of fun, and has been around for decades. The casting is great, there is a lot of chemistry between cast members. The stories are The Worst Witch, well written The Worst Witch this show kept the spirit and sense of humor of the books, while The Worst Witch a few modern touches. When a broomstick crash-lands on her balcony, Mildred Hubble hitches a ride to Cackle's Academy and begins her training as a newly minted witch. It's time for the first-years to choose their feline familiars. But fear of flying makes Mildred's cat, Tabby, a terrible co-pilot. When a celebrity student arrives in rockstar fashion and takes a shine to Mildred, Ethel uses the girls' budding friendship to make Maud jealous. When a spell gone wrong turns Ethel into a pig, she retaliates by turning Mildred into a frog, and Maud and Enid must work together to find her. The school's abuzz with excitement when the Great Wizard makes an impromptu visit and Miss Cackle taps Mildred to lead The Worst Witch aerial display. Mildred's plan to ace a history test backfires when a wisdom spell turns her into an old woman and forces her to impersonate a teacher. A panicked Maud uses a forgetting powder on Parents' Evening so The Worst Witch one will remember her mistakes. But now Mildred has forgotten their friendship. When invitations go out for the first-year coven, Mildred's not sure she belongs When heavy mist puts the school on lockdown, Mildred and Ethel sneak out to find a lost cat, only to find the academy much altered upon their return. While the other first-years focus on end-of-year exams, Ethel is desperate to learn the truth about Mildred, Miss Cackle and a shocking school secret. With a horrible new headmistress at the helm, The Worst Witch academy takes on a much darker tone.

While there may be uncertainty in many areas of life right now, what the arts and venues like ours can do at times like these is to provide space for reflection, opportunities to come together and even just simple escapism through entertainment. Two major new announcements in this season have a particular excitement and personal resonance for me. Fresh from the critical acclaim and rapturous reaction following his last visit to us, Acosta Danza with Carlos Acosta returns to us with a brand new programme of work, opening their second European tour in Norwich and including the European premiere of a brand new work. Also making their return after a slightly longer break of 46 years are Welsh National Opera. They are presenting a chamber production of Don Pasquale at the Playhouse before coming to Theatre Royal with their critically-acclaimed production of The Marriage of Figaro in April 2020. My first experience of music and opera was being part of a primary school workshop delivered by WNO when I was seven.

This story explores the many problems Mildred faces, the consequences of acting without thinking, and the rewards of loyalty. The experiences of Mildred are still relevant for today’s young people, and will offer an opportunity for discussion on topics such as feelings, friendships, bullying, decision-making and the value of goal setting. The book has 10 chapters, each between 6-10 pages long. Refer back to lesson on rules – following the rules keeps us safe, keeps us out of trouble, and helps us learn. Explore the concept that rules are a very important part of everyone’s life. Discuss the problems that could be faced in a school with no rules – and from this discussion ask about the added problems that could be faced in a witches school if there were no rules. In what ways did Mildred break the rules? Annoyed the teachers, hat on back to front, bootlaces trailing, crashed her broom stick etc.
