Day 1 Land’s End to Fowey 64 miles Garmin file: http://connect.garmin.com/course/2826499 Elevation Gain: 1409m / 4622ft Overview This is a tough start to the trip with plenty of short, sharp hills to tackle. The road from Lands’ End to Penzance is undulating with a couple of short, steep hills. After Marazion there is a fairly gradual climb away from the village then more undulating quiet roads to Leedstown. The route continues to be hilly for most of the rest of the day with notable hills away from the King Harry ferry, Tregony & towards the end of the day at Polperro, just after Par. You will cycle along mostly quiet country lanes with the busiest section at St. Austell and Par. There is a climb and descent at the end of the day into Fowey. Practical Notes There are lots of short, steep hills today. There is a short chain ferry at 39 miles. You will need a £1 coin and remember to get into a low gear as there is a steep hill on the other side. It’s safer to walk on and off these ferries The scenic and historic port town of Charlestown is just off-route at mile 57.3 Fowey is a lovely place to spend the night, but the group are spread out across a number of B&B’s.
