LAST GAME - Nov. 7 (Nashville 4 at Colorado 9) Trailing 3-2 early in the second period, the Avalanche erupted for six goals in a span of 8:00 to roll to a 9-4 victory over the Predators at Pepsi Center. Joonas Donskoi led the way with his first NHL hat trick, helping the Avs to their best offensive output in 12 years. Nathan MacKinnon had four points (1g/3a) and Andre Burakovsky (1g/2a), Ryan Graves (1g/2a) and Cale Makar (1g/2a) each added three points.

LAST GAME'S NOTABLES • The Avalanche set a franchise record by scoring six goals in a span of 8:00 in the second period, eclipsing the previous mark of 8:06 set by the Quebec Nordiques on Feb. 22, 1981 (11-7 win at Washington). Colorado became the third NHL team in the last 20 years to score six goals in a span of 8:00 or less in a game, joining the 2010-11 Maple Leafs (7:43, Jan. 7, 2011 at Atlanta) and the 1999-00 Rangers (8:00, Dec. 15, 1999 vs. LA Kings).

• The Avalanche's nine goals were its most in a game since Dec. 9, 2007 (9-5 win over St. Louis at Pepsi Center). In fact, it marked only the fifth time that Colorado has scored nine or more times in a game since relocating from Quebec. It was the most goals by an NHL team this season and the most goals ever allowed by the Predators.

• The Avs tied a franchise record with six goals in the second period. It was the 11th time the Avalanche/Nordiques have scored six goals in a period (last: Jan. 19, 2019 vs. Los Angeles - 2nd).

• Here is a rundown of Colorado's second-period scoring:

2 goals in 0:20 3 goals in 1:31 4 goals in 2:21 5 goals in 4:35 6 goals in 8:00

• The five goals in 4:35 was not a franchise record but was an Avalanche record. The previous quickest five goals was 5:18 on Oct. 19, 1996 vs. Vancouver.

• Makar's three points were a career high and tied the single-game Avalanche record for a rookie defenseman set by Kevin Shattenkirk on Nov. 27, 2010 vs. Minnesota. Makar fell one shy of equaling the franchise mark for points by a rookie blueliner (4) set by Quebec's Jeff Brown on Oct. 13, 1986 at Vancouver.

• Markar's goal came 49 seconds into the first period. It was one of five opening-minute goals scored around the league on Thursday, tied for the most on one day in NHL history (also Oct. 15, 1981, Jan. 1, 2000 and Feb. 24, 2018).

• Colorado's 45 shots were a season high and the 24 shots allowed were a season low.

• Donskoi's hat trick was the first of his career and his three points matched a personal best. Burakovsky equaled his personal best in points and scored his team-leading third game winner of the year. Graves set a new career high in points.

• Thursday marked only the second time that five different Avalanche players had three points in a game. On Dec. 5, 1995, six different Avs tallied three points in Colorado's 12-2 win over San Jose (Deadmarsh, Forsberg, Kamensky, Kovalenko, Sakic, Young).

TONIGHT'S GAME The Avalanche wraps up a two-game homestand tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Pepsi Center. The Avs will be off tomorrow before departing for a five-game road trip on Monday. It will be Colorado's second road trip of at least five games already this season, with one more to go. This marks just the second time in franchise history that the club will have three road trips of at least five games (also 1999-00).

• Joonas Donskoi is set to appear in his 300th game tonight. • Erik Johnson has 199 points (58g/141a) with Colorado, one shy of becoming the sixth Avalanche defenseman to reach 200 (Barrie, Liles, Ozolinsh, Foote, Blake).

LEADING THE WAY Cale Makar's three points on Thursday were a career high and tied the single-game Avalanche record for a rookie defenseman set by Kevin Shattenkirk on Nov. 27, 2010 vs. Minnesota. Makar leads all NHL rookies in scoring with 15 points (2g/13a) in 16 contests. He is the first defenseman in Colorado/Quebec franchise history to record 15 points in his first 16 career games.

ROOKIE SCORING LEADERS 15 Cale Makar (COL) 11 Ilya Mikheyev (TOR) 11 Quinn Hughes (VAN) 11 Victor Olofsson (BUF) 10 Martin Necas (CAR)

HOME COOKING Nathan MacKinnon has points in each of Colorado's eight home games, totaling 14 (5g/9a) during this stretch. With a goal or assist tonight, MacKinnon would have the longest home scoring streak to start a season in Avalanche history (since 1995-96). His eight- game run has tied Alex Tanguay's mark to open the 2005-06 campaign.

AVS & BLUE JACKETS Tonight is the first of two meetings between the Avalanche and Blue Jackets in 2019-20 and Columbus' only visit to Denver.

SEE YOU IN FINLAND The Avalanche and Blue Jackets will face off in a pair of regular-season games next fall at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, as part of the NHL Global Series.

EAST SIDE STORY The Avs are 4-0-2 versus Eastern Conference teams.

YOU HAD TO BE A BIG SHOT Nathan MacKinnon ranks second in the NHL with 82 shots, two behind Alex Ovechkin. MacKinnon recorded a career-high 12 shots on Nov. 1 vs. Dallas, tying the single-game franchise record set by Gabriel Landeskog on Jan. 9, 2019 at Calgary. It is the most shots by an NHL player in a game so far this year. MacKinnon, who led the NHL with a franchise-record 365 shots last season, has a shot in 167 consecutive games, the second longest active streak behind Dougie Hamilton (263).

LUCKY 13 Nathan MacKinnon recorded points in each of his first 13 games, the longest scoring streak to start a season in Avalanche history. It was the fourth longest such streak in franchise history and the longest by an NHL player to open a season since Henrik Zetterberg (17 straight) in 2007-08.

MacKinnon was the fifth player in NHL history to record a season-opening point streak of nine or more games in consecutive seasons, joining Wayne Gretzky (four straight, 1982-86), Charlie Simmer (1979-81), Guy Lafleur (1975-77) and Rod Gilbert (1971-73).

LAST MAN STANDING The Avs were the NHL's last undefeated team (5-0-0) and the last team without a regulation loss (7-0-1). Colorado's 7-0-1 (15 points) start was its best through eight games in franchise history, and the eight-game point streak to begin the campaign was the second- longest to start a season in franchise history (9-0-2 in 2000-01). It was the longest by any team to open a campaign since the Canadiens began 2016-17 with a 9-0-1 run. Colorado won eight of its first 10 games for just the fifth time in franchise history and third time in Avalanche history.

FINE OCTOBER The Avalanche finished 8-2-2 in October, 4-1-1 both at home and on the road. It ranked as the fifth-best October in the 40-year history of the Avalanche/Nordiques franchise.

HIGH FIVE Cale Makar was the first defenseman in franchise history and just the fifth defender in NHL history to open his NHL career with a five- game point streak. In fact, Makar's five-game streak ended up tied for the second-longest by a blueliner to begin a career in NHL history (Marek Zidlicky, 6, 2003-04). Furthermore, Makar also equaled the Avalanche record (since 1995-96) for the longest streak to start a career at any position, a mark Alex Tanguay set to begin his career in 1999-00. Makar, who joined the Avs during their first round series against Calgary last spring, was the first defenseman in league history to score a goal while making his NHL debut in the Playoffs.

LEAGUE OF NATIONS Nine different countries were represented on the Opening Night roster: Canada, USA, Russia, Finland and Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, . Columbus (also nine) was the only other team to feature players from nine different countries.

THIS DAY IN AVS HISTORY Nov. 9, 1995 - The Avalanche began their NHL record streak of 487 consecutive home sellouts with a capacity crowd of 16,061 against the Dallas Stars at McNichols Arena.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS Thursday’s contest at Arizona was the 11th one-goal game of the Blue Jackets’ season (6-2-3) and the second in as many outings. The Jackets lead the NHL in one-goal games played (WSH and STL rank second with 10 each), while the club’s six wins in one-goal games are second-T in the league (trailing STL’s seven victories).

HIT THE ROAD, JACK-ETS The current road trip is the first extended trip of the season, a three-game stretch that involves Arizona, Colorado and Montreal from Nov. 7-12. Prior to the trip, the Jackets had played in six one and done road trips. The Blue Jackets have five trips of at least three games in 2019-20, with the longest roadie a five-game run over eight days on Mar. 21-28. Columbus is 3-2-2 on the road this season.

WEST WORLD Tonight’s game at Colorado wraps a string of six-straight games against Western Conference opponents (1-3-1). Since topping Colorado 6-3 on Feb. 5, 2019, Columbus is 7-2-2 in road games vs. Western Conference opponents, including a five-game road point streak dating back to last season (3-0-2).

(NY)QUEST AWAY FROM HOME Signed in the offseason to a four-year deal, Gustav Nyquist has found early success with the club, especially on the road. The forward has collected a point in all seven road games this season, recording 3-6-9 after a three-point outing at Arizona on Thursday where he factored in all three Blue Jackets goals (1-2-3). His streak is now tied for the fifth longest road point streak in a single season in club history. The 30-year old Swede had a goal and an assist in his last outing vs. Colorado, last season as a member of the Sharks.

The center has points in six-straight road games (5-2-7), which included a run of goals in five-straight road contests, tied for third longest streak in CBJ history. He has back-to-back 20-goal seasons and if he can reach that threshold this year, will become the first player in Blue Jackets history to begin his NHL career with three straight 20-goal seasons. He has a three-game point streak vs. COL (2-3-5, +1).

KORPI SAYS NO-VEMBER Joonas Korpisalo is expected to start tonight and has been strong of late. He is coming off a 30-save effort at Arizona on Thursday, collecting the Third Star of the Game in his third-straight start. He has stopped 79-of-85 shots (.929 SV pct.) with a 2.03 GAA in his first three starts of November. The Finnish netminder is 2-0-0 with a 2.49 GAA and .912 SV pct. vs. Colorado in his career.

Captain Nathan Gerbe (3-8-11) leads the team in points while goaltender Veini Vehvilainen has a 3-2-0 record with a 2.02 GAA and .932 SV% and a shutout. Elsewhere, Tyler Angle (2019, 7th Round) has opened his season with 10-10-20 in 14 games in Windsor (OHL), while Eric Hjorth (2019, 4th round) has 5-9-14 in 16 games with Sarnia (OHL).
